CASA: Passionate advocates for children

Fall Fundraiser and Dinner this week
Cyndy Wright is a voice for children who have no voice. She is one of 35
volunteer guardians ad litem who advocate for children in Juvenile Court -- children who have been removed from their parents' care because of abuse or neglect. CASA is one of the unsung nonprofits in Clermont County that are integral to the well-being of these children.
CASA, a non-profit, depends on grants and fundraisers for its $200,000 annual budget. Its Fall Fundraiser Dinner and Auction is at 6 p.m. Friday, Nov. 3, at Holiday Inn Eastgate. The gala includes raffle baskets, silent auctions and live auctions.

'Teens need families, no matter what'
|
|
November is National Adoption Awareness of Month. This year's theme is 'Teens need families, no matter what.' And that is so true, says Clermont County Adoption Supervisor
Julie Jordan. "This is a critical time for these kids," Jordan said. "They need support and guidance, just like any other teen."
Most of the 19 children that Clermont County has under its protection who are eligible to be adopted are 12 or older. To find out more about each one of them, go to

Sponsor a child through the Community Toy Chest
 Children's Protective Services wants to make sure that every child in its care has presents to open on Christmas Day. The generous businesses, churches and individuals that contribute to the Community Toy Chest make this happen.
Those who are interested in sponsoring a child will get a first name, age, and a wish list. They are asked to shop for the child and turn in the gifts by a certain date. Monetary donations are also welcomed. The CPS staff can pool together donations to buy gift cards or electronic gifts for older youth.
Children of every age need a sponsor. The age range of the children, who have been removed from their homes due to abuse and/or neglect, is from infancy to 18.

FIELD TRIP: Students from the Lego League Team at Meadowview Elementary in Milford visited the Bob McEwen Water Treatment Plant on Oct. 26, where they learned the process involved to treat and purify water from Harsha Lake.

VETERANS DAY PARADE: The Clermont County annual Veterans Day Parade will be on Saturday, Nov. 11. Parade lineup begins at 1 p.m., the program begins at 1:45 p.m., and the parade will begin at 2 p.m. The parade will begin at the Baxla Tractor lot on West Main Street, and continue east to the Central Joint Fire-EMS firehouse on East Main Street.

PUBLIC HEARINGS:
The Clermont County Board of Commissioners will hold two public hearings for viewing and comments on the proposed revised Clermont County Water Management Sediment Control Regulations. The hearings will be held in the Board Session Room, 101 E. Main St., 3rd Floor, Batavia, at 11 a.m. Nov. 8 and Nov. 15. Details here.
ADOPT-A-SENIOR: Our low-income seniors would love a special gift from Santa! Clermont Senior Services is holding its annual Adopt-A-Senior program, which in the past has provided more than 600 older adults in Clermont County with essential items from generous donors. SEPTIC REHAB: Clermont County Public Health is now accepting applications for the 2018 Septic Rehab Program. The program offers help to low-income homeowners to fix their failing septic systems. Details here.
CONSERVATION ASSISTANCE: Farmers in Brown and Clermont County who want to improve the natural resources on their land can apply for funding through two programs offered by the Natural Resources Conservation Service. Details here.
SAFETY TIP: Next Saturday, Nov. 4, we'll roll back our clocks for an hour (and get an extra hour of sleep!) as Daylight Saving Time ends. It's a good practice to change the batteries in your smoke detectors twice a year -- and easy to remember if you do it when DST begins and ends.
