Party With Us on Small Business Saturday!

For a fun family activity on Thanksgiving weekend, drop into the store for our Small Business Saturday/Indies First party.

We've invited lots of authors to the party--and this year we're making 'em work! They won't just be sitting at a table signing books, they'll be roaming the store, talking to you and your kids, and giving you book suggestions and recommendations. (Of course we'll let them sign books too!)

We'll also have activities, including live music, kids' coloring, storytelling and even a kid yoga/stretching session in the morning. Join us for the fun on Saturday, November 25th from 10 a.m.-3 p.m.

Meet Our Authors!

Click on the author image or name to go to their website or Facebook page; and click on the book image or title for more information on the book.

From 10 a.m.-12:30 p.m.

We're thrilled to be introducing Jeannie's brand new book! Jeannie writes historical novels for middle grades and her two earlier books. Katerina's Wish and Searching for Silverheels are already Bookies favorites.

Are You Ready for the Holidays?

We don't want to panic you, but there are fewer than 50 shopping days left before Christmas and fewer than 40 before Chanukah! Almost all our holiday stock is already on the shelves. Don't miss out on the best gifts, but do miss out on the crowds, by shopping now for the holidays!

These will be some of this year's hottest gifts--get them now before they're gone!

The British Library, illus. by Jim Kay
Expand your knowledge of the Potterverse and more with this fascinating zip through the history of magic and the Hogwarts curriculum, including the Care of Magical Creatures and Defense Against the Dark Arts. Includes unseen sketches and manuscript pages by J. K. Rowling.

This is the cutest Christmas story for younger kids that we've seen in a long time! Santa's beard grows longer every time a child does something good--and the children are being so good that Santa's beard is so long he can't make the toys! So the elves trim it while he's sleeping and send a snippet to every good boy and girl--including the one reading this book. Told in charming rhyme and includes a curl from Santa's beard for your own good child!

Quirky and fun, this family game will keep you laughing throughout the holidays. Set your shaggy dog up in his bath, then race around the board, turning the little taps when you are told to. If the doggy shakes, he'll splash you with water and it's back to the start for you! Ages four and up.

Jeffrey Burton and Chani Tornow
A sweet little board book in which the Itsy Bitsy Dreidel learns about Chanukah. Playful, but full of warmth for the youngest readers.

The perfect gifts for tweens, who can make their own stunning star-shaped lantern with string and lights with this fantastic kit from Creativity for Kids.

Build up a literary collection that will last a lifetime with these beautiful little hardbacks. Truly pocket-sized, with stunning covers, real cloth hardcover binding, a ribbon marker and gilt edges on the pages, these little books start at only $9.99. All the classics of world literature are included, many of them featuring their original illustrations. A wonderful gift for a young reader just falling in love with the classics, or for an older reader who has loved them forever.

J.K. Rowling, illustrated by Jim Kay
The most stunning illustrated version so far! This is the third in the collectible series of illustrated Harry Potters, including the full text of the book with amazing illustrations by Jim Kay. Continue your collection, or start it this year!

Santa with list
Are You Making a List?

We can help! Why not make a wish list for your holiday books on our website? Then your friends and family can shop for your gifts from us without even leaving their home!

If you email us before you select your wish list, we will set up a special link for you that means we can track which gifts have been bought, and delete them from your list so that new purchasers only see what is left!

Something different...
The Snowy Day storytime
We had to put out extra chairs for our special Ezra Jack Keats storytime on Saturday, October 28th! Actor Zak Reynolds read several Keats books with great energy. Zak is a cast member of Denver Center for the Performing Arts' new production of The Snowy Day and Other Stories by Ezra Jack Keats.

The production is specifically designed for young children and you can catch the show until November 18th! Pop over to this DCPA web page for more information.

Cow at Glendale
Cows read too! We had a fantastic time at the recent Glendale Halloween party, hosted by the Glendale Sports Center. We shared books galore with kids and their parents and saw some awesome costumes! We'll be back for the Sports Center's Christmas party in mid-December. These parties are so much fun for the kids, with food, entertainment and gifts, including books! If you live locally, come and join us! We'll post details on our Facebook page closer to the time.

Colonial Horrors
Where_s Waldo
On the Sunday before Halloween, Graeme Davis shared creepy stories and American history with us when he read from the new collection he has edited, Colonial Horrors. And Waldo stopped hiding for long enough to read Halloween picture books both on Sunday and at Tuesday's regular 10:30 a.m. pre-school storytime.

Please note that we'll be closed on Thanksgiving and Black Friday, reopening on Saturday 25th November for our next event, Small Business Saturday!
