9 . 1 5 . 1 7
Good afternoon everyone...

This was a good week for everyone who loves football... unless you are from the state of Ohio.

In the NFL the Cleveland Browns of course lost to the Steelers last Sunday. Ben Roethlisberger became the all time winningest QB in the history of First Energy Stadium where the Browns play. Meaning he has won more games in Cleveland than all of the Browns own QB's since 1999. And he only plays there once a year! Ouch.

The Cincinnati Bengals didn't fair any better. In fact, they didn't just lose last Sunday, they also lost last night!  That's twice in 4 days! And they didn't look very good doing it. You might wan't to give Todd as hug.

THE Ohio State University didn't help the Buckeye state either, as they lost to the Oklahoma Sooners last Saturday.

All in all not a good week for our friends from the state to the left of us.  Counseling appointments are available.

Now I know that some of you don't care for sports. And that is okay. You don't have to enjoy sports to be a part of Discovery. But did you know that the Bible talks about sports quite a bit?  Especially, the Apostle Paul. He compared sports and physical training to being a follower of Jesus in a number of passages.

So as we continue this Sunday in our series  In The Game we will be looking at several of Paul's passages, and as we do we will discover how we can better run our individual races and how we can be more disciplined in our quest to be more like Jesus.

Our friends from Ohio already have a head start on those of us in Pennsylvania. Because as Jesus once said, "the last will be first and the first will be last."

See you on game day!

Merge is a one-day fall retreat for local young adults in Pittsburgh. Questions?  Contact Todd.  Space is limited, register early.

Discovery on Mission

One of the main goals of Journey Groups is to serve together to connect more and more people with Jesus.  Sometimes we say, we want to MOVE together.  While all Journey Groups engage in serving, this group is highly committed to consistently helping others throughout our community.  Each month we'll engage in different projects and objectives to serve others throughout the year in local missions each week.  If you would like to be a part of this group or if you have questions, please contact
Nick Ranjan .
Infertility Support Group

Approximately 6-10% of married couples are infertile, meaning that they can't get or stay pregnant.  This statistic affects Christians and churchgoers, too. Infertility is lonely. If you find yourself in this group, we want you to know that you are loved and you are not alone.  Please consider joining our private group where frustration is met with friendship. If you think that you may benefit from hearing about similar experiences, sharing medical information, or being reminded that you are important apart from being someone's mom or dad, please contact Debbie Harrington or send her a private Facebook message.
Power Recovery

We organize monthly social visits with the women in Power Recovery.  Power's mission is to help women reclaim their lives from the disease of addiction to alcohol and other drugs, and to reduce the incidence of addiction in future generations.  At each visit, we will play games, socialize, and enjoy a snack with the ladies.  You will be asked to bring a snack or dessert to serve 25.  For more information, please contact Debbie Cincala.
Discovery Meal Team

The Meal Team is a group of volunteers who share the message and compassion of Jesus by providing a service for those in need.  The meals we provide shows love and support to families in need due to illness, death or a birth.  The frequency of requests varies, you only sign up for a meal when you are able.  If you would like to be a part of this group or for more information, please contact Debbie Cincala.
Prayer Requests

If you have a prayer request that you would like the prayer team to pray for,  please mark the 'flap' on Sunday or email your request. Let us know if you would like your request to remain anonymous.  If you would like to be added to the list of people who receives and prays for requests each week, please email us and we will add you to the prayer updates.
