Connection: In Search of The Undivided Self

Writer and naturalist LM Browning states, "Being connected to everything has disconnected us from ourselves and the preciousness of this present moment."
How do we become disconnected from ourselves? What creates the divided life within? With references to Parker Palmer's book "A Hidden Wholeness," we will explore these questions. Our Time for All Ages will be a Children's Hymn Sing led by our Music Director, Susan Swaney.
Our Children's Hymn Sing is a time when our kids and youth choose hymns from our Singing the Living Tradition hymnbook. In this way, they actually create content of our worship service. It is empowering for kids to choose and fun for all ages to sing hymns not anticipated. Please remind the children that we will have a Children's Hymn Sing this Sunday.

Exploring Connection through our earth centered source
Our Spirit Play classes are focusing on our red promise, Respect All People. World of Wonder (Preschool) is hearing a traditional Iroquois story, The Argument Sticks. Roots and Wings (K-2) is hearing Crow Boy, a Japanese story. Curiosity Club
(3
rd
-8th at 9:15, 3-5th at 11:15) will explore a Pueblo Indian tale, Arrow to the Sun. Harry Potter and UU (6-8th at 11:15) will be connecting with their animal spirits, making patronus boxes. High School Youth Group will be making pizzas and playing games.

Happy September RE Families!
There are many exciting things coming up this month in religious education and you will want to make sure to get them on your calendar. Classes start this Sunday, OWL for 1st and 2nd graders, Autumnal Equinox, and a workshop on Talking About Race and Racism with Kids in 1st-12th grade.

How to Talk to Kids about Race and Racism
Thursdays, September 21st and September 28th from 6-8pm in Fellowship Hall
* Workshop for adults who want to learn how to talk to kids about race and racism. Everyone is welcome.
* Two-day workshop led by IU professor Nya McCarthy-Brown
* Attendance at BOTH sessions is expected
* Will share resources and guide participants through challenging dialogues to help parents,
adults and educators develop and refine strategies to talk to children in first thru 12th grade about race and r
acism in our lives.
* Children will be invited to join the discussion from 7-8pm on September 28.

We have made safety improvements in the last couple of weeks: New stair treads on the east stairway and new tile in the lower hallway to cover the concrete from filling in the old cold air returns. Painting of exterior and interior areas has also been completed. Thank you for helping us be good stewards of our building!

Kids with Absent Parents (KAP) program
from Hope for Prisoners Invites Donations & Volunteers
Our Hope for Prisoners Task Force has initiated the Kids with Absent Parents (KAP) Program to help children in Monroe County whose parents are incarcerated. When parents are incarcerated, their children's lives are often disrupted by changes: Where they live and go to school, extra stress on the caretaker, fear, shame, and social exclusion. We are collecting items for this project through September 17.

Builders Needed for Habitat Task Force on September 23
The Habitat Task Force is recruiting about 10 volunteers to participate in a Habitat for Humanity build on
Sept. 23 on South Rogers Road. Volunteers will be working on cabinets, insulation, countertops, and other jobs. No experience necessary; training provided. Volunteers can work full-day (
8 a.m. to 4 p.m.) or half-day shifts, with lunch provided. Please contact Barb Berggoetz,
