a message from the ptsa president
|
What if
your best friend came down with a contagious disease and needed someone to care for her? Would you go to her aide? If the disease in question were potentially lethal . . . with a survival rate of only 30 percent, would you still go? If so, would that be fair to your family?
This is the type of ethical dilemma our seniors will grapple with at Langley's annual Ethics Forum, fast approaching on
Wed, Oct 19. All Langley parents are encouraged to "pay it forward" and volunteer at least once before their child's senior year. (To promote a free exchange of ideas, parents of seniors cannot volunteer.)
By signing up to be a table leader, you'll
guide a group of eight students through several ethical dilemma modules,
facilitate discussions, and get a
fascinating glimpse into the psyches of our seniors--an impressive group! Chances are you'll get as much out of the day as our seniors. The
commitment is from 8:15 am to 2:45 pm and includes lunch.
There are other Langley volunteer opportunities to consider as well. The school clinic, for example, needs additional parents to train to work the occasional hour in the clinic. To volunteer for Ethics Forum, the school clinic or a number of other jobs, fill out the PTSA Volunteer Form in your child's back-to-school packet, or click this link to download a form.

Parent and community volunteers are needed to serve as table leaders at the annual
Senior Ethics Forum, to be held on
Wed, Oct 19 from 8:15 am to 2:45 pm.
Please note that the Forum is being held in October, not May, as in previous years.
Seniors rotate through three modules where an ethical dilemma is presented, followed by group discussions facilitated by volunteer table leaders. Senior parents, teachers and school staff do not serve in this capacity, so we need parents of underclassmen or adults outside of the Langley parent community. Don't worry,
training is provided!
Feedback from the past senior classes has been overwhelmingly positive. Many table leaders return year after year and truly value spending the day with Langley students. Don't miss the opportunity to participate in this important program.
You can click
here
to sign up. If you'd like more information, please contact Kim Wenk at kbwenk@verizon.net.
