Intro To Generosity Phase
Ignite Your Generosity!

Generosity is a word that gets tossed about a lot. But, what does it really mean? For many of us, we think of generosity as giving of our time, talent, and treasure. But, it's more than that...generosity is a lifestyle. Matthew Kelly challenges us to become more generous. He also tells us that growing in generosity must be intentional. Life is busy and distracting. We are pulled in so many different directions, and unless we make greater generosity a priority, it will not happen. In many ways generosity is the external proof that the Gospel has taken root in our heart. It is a lie to say that we love God if we do not love our neighbor, and generosity is at the core of that love for neighbor. Time and time again we are called to give something up, but only so that we can become more perfectly who God created us to be. It is by giving that we receive, and even more so, it is by giving that we become.

Take this phase to heart, take time to pray, and see how God is calling you to approach generosity. Matthew Kelly says that,

"We cannot do everything, but that doesn't mean  we should do nothing. We cannot save everyone,  but that doesn't mean we shouldn't save some.  Don't let what you cannot do interfere with what  you can do. And what we can do, all of us,  is make small sacrifices, and simplify our lives  in some small ways so that others may simply live."

Below, among other resources, you will find a video from Father Mike Schmitz on the topic of generosity. This is a great starting point when approaching our generosity.

Generosity As A Lifestyle

Winston Churchill once said, "You make a living by what you get. You make a life by what you give." Churchill was a great leader, and what he said about giving really drives home the point of what I think generosity can be: a lifestyle.

Catholic Social Teaching

Being Generous With The Help Of Catholic Social Teachings

Social Teaching: Life and Dignity of the Human Person
As Catholic's, we believe in the sanctity of all human life. One way to show your generosity in connection to social teachings is to give your financial support, your time, or your talents to one of the many pregnancy resource centers in the twin cities that is making every life count. One other way to be generous is to open your heart and pray for all life, from conception to natural death.

Social Teaching: Solidarity
As Catholic's, we believe we are each other's brothers and sisters, we are one human family. We are called to love one another, here in Minnesota and to the ends of the earth. One way you can do that is to financially support the efforts underway in Florida after hurricane Irma. One other way to be generous, is to open your heart and pray for the lives lost, the recovery efforts, and all who were affected by all natural disasters this year.

App Review
KTIS Hands and Feet App Review
By Victoria Siedlecki

I am a listener of 98.5 KTIS Christian radio station and have heard advertisements for the Hands and Feet App many times. Since IYF is focusing on growing in generosity for the next few months, I thought it would be a great time to download the app and try it out.

The app is simple to use and is actually simple in content. However, remember what Saint Teresa of Calcutta said, "Do small things with great love." Each day there are three different Kind Act Ideas for you to choose from. For example, today's ideas were "Be the first to smile when you see someone", "Share the wisdom you've learned with a friend", and "Do something spontaneously fun with your family."  After I completed one of the acts, I would click on the button titled "I did this" and up pops a tally of the number of kind acts I did for the day and how many other people using the app completed the same act. There is also a total number of "Hands and Feet" kind acts done so far around the Twin Cities and a daily Scripture verse to pray.

What helped me to make this work the best for my life was to check the app first thing in the morning so that I would already have a kind act in mind when approaching my day.  This app is a great tool that provides examples of random acts of kindness but also to have as a reminder that generosity is a learned lifestyle that requires daily participation from each one of us.
