Ignite Your Generosity!
Generosity is a word that gets tossed about a lot. But, what does it really mean? For many of us, we think of generosity as giving of our time, talent, and treasure. But, it's more than that...generosity is a lifestyle. Matthew Kelly challenges us to become more generous. He also tells us that growing in generosity must be intentional. Life is busy and distracting. We are pulled in so many different directions, and unless we make greater generosity a priority, it will not happen. In many ways generosity is the external proof that the Gospel has taken root in our heart. It is a lie to say that we love God if we do not love our neighbor, and generosity is at the core of that love for neighbor. Time and time again we are called to give something up, but only so that we can become more perfectly who God created us to be. It is by giving that we receive, and even more so, it is by giving that we become.
Take this phase to heart, take time to pray, and see how God is calling you to approach generosity. Matthew Kelly says that,
"We cannot do everything, but that doesn't mean
we should do nothing. We cannot save everyone,
but that doesn't mean we shouldn't save some.
Don't let what you cannot do interfere with what
you can do. And what we can do, all of us,
is make small sacrifices, and simplify our lives
in some small ways so that others may simply live."
Below, among other resources, you will find a video from Father Mike Schmitz on the topic of generosity. This is a great starting point when approaching our generosity.
