CHAMBER INTEL
September 14, 2017
Message from the President
Irma is going to be one of those unforgettable hurricanes that goes down in the history books. The devastation it brought to Barbuda, Saint Maarten, Cuba, Tortola, Turks & Caicos and so many other Caribbean islands along with the devastation throughout the Florida Keys, Jacksonville and the entire state of Florida, parts of Georgia and South Carolina was astounding. Brevard County was fortunate to
have the hurricane come from the west instead of a direct hit like the initial forecasts predicted. That does not mean there wasn’t destruction and some still remain without power. FPL has the largest fleet of repair trucks ever assembled working throughout the state. It has been nice to see the stories of neighbors helping neighbors and strangers providing a helping hand when needed without thought to
their own situation.

The Chamber now has its power back and we are up and running. If you need any assistance, please reach out to us. We have been posting updates we receive on Facebook as it seems most people still had cell phone usage and that was the quickest place to post information. Please continue to check our Facebook page for continued updates about the county.

I know the Space Coast Symposium is the last thing on anyone’s mind, but it seems to be perfect timing to discuss the state of Brevard County. We have representatives from Canaveral Port Authority, Home Builders & Contractors Association of Brevard, Brevard County Schools, Sheriff’s Office, County, Indian River Lagoon, Space Florida, Space Coast Economic Development Commission, Space Coast Office of Tourism, Orlando Melbourne International Airport along with Florida Senator Dorothy Hukill and Florida Representatives Thomas Goodson, Thad Altman and Randy Fine. There will be lots of time for Q&A. Join us for breakfast and lunch for only $45 to hear these fabulous panelists on Friday, September 22 at the Space Coast Convention Center.

All the best,

Nancy Peltonen
President/CEO
