Thank you, Coral Gables!

We've received numerous reports that neighbors have been helping neighbors in cleaning up storm debris from around homes and streets. We want to send a special appreciation to everyone in the community who has done this to speed up the recovery process. City crews are overwhelmed with the amount of debris created by Hurricane Irma, and we estimate that 170,000 cubic yards of debris need to be collected so far. From the bottoms of our heart, we want to say to all of you who have helped out on your own before we could get to you: "Thank you. Thank you!" Coral Gables is a wonderful community that stands together as one. Your kindness is also a force of nature that unites us all.

Garbage:
Garbage collection teams are finishing collection for Thursday service route and providing Friday service collection today.  City crews will continue to collect garbage through Saturday, September 16.   Garbage collection volume is extremely high.  Please make sure garbage bins and bagged garbage is visible from the street and very accessible for the collection crew.  Collection routes and times will take longer due to the very high volume of garbage, traffic conditions, and longer than usual lines at disposal sites. W e appreciate your patience.

Lyft Ridesharing:
As announced yesterday, the City of Coral Gables is partnering with the rideshare company Lyft to provide free, storm-related "relief rides" to Coral Gables residents, free of charge. All you have to do is call our Coral Gables Hotline number at 305-460-5401 and our call-takers will arrange it for you. This service is available for a limited period of time.

Seniors:
If you know of a senior citizen living nearby, and they're still without power, please encourage them to take a break from the heat and call a Lyft ride (for free) at 305-460-5401 to take them to the Adult Activity Center at 2 Andalusia Avenue. City staff will welcome and make them comfortable between the hours of 9 a.m. and 5 p.m. There's electricity at the center, plenty of water, and the opportunity to relax among fellow seniors and play a game, or watch a movie. It will be a bonding experience where they can feel safe and secure. We'll make sure they're doing ok until their power is restored.

Traffic update:
  • 29 intersections citywide are non-operational as of 0700 hours today;
  • All traffic lights south of Sunset are operational (exception is Matheson & Old Cutler);
  • 3 traffic crash reports written as of 1600 hours yesterday (no injuries).
