ANNOUNCEMENTS
Center Stage Series presents Thomanerchor Leipzig: St.Thomas Boys' Choir Saturday, November 18 at 7:30 p.m. in the Center for Faith and Life, Main Hall. Don't miss the rare opportunity to hear the choir J.S. Bach himself directed. Established in 1212, the all-boys choir is rich in it's 800 years of musical tradition and continues to be a cultural influence worldwide. Tickets are free with CAF at the Ticket Office or tickets.luther.edu
 
Luther alumni and professional pianists Jordan Buchholtz and Charles Hoeft will co-headline the Dorian keyboard guest recital at 7:30 p.m. Friday, November 10, in the Noble Recital Hall of Jenson-Noble Hall of Music.   
 
The Dorian Keyboard Festival will showcase the top performers of the festival in a recital at 5 p.m. Saturday, November 11, in the Noble Recital Hall of the Jenson-Noble Hall of Music. The recital, given by the top Keyboard Festival participants, will feature the artists' repertoire from the festival.   
 
The Luther College Symphony Orchestra, under the direction of Daniel Baldwin, will present their fall concert at 4 p.m. Sunday, November 12, in the Main Hall of the Center for Faith and Life. The program features "The Moldau" by BedÅ™ich Smetana, then William Grant Still's "Ennanga" with a harp solo performed by Rachel Brandwein, adjunct faculty in music. The concert concludes with Symphony No. 5 in E minor Op. 64 by Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky.  
 
The International Students and Allies Association (ISAA) will be showing the Academy Award-winning documentary 'The White Helmets' on November 14 at 7 p.m., Valders 206.
The documentary will be followed by a panel discussion featuring Professors Todd Green, Pedro dos Santos and a few students. Join us as we engage in discussion on Syria, international politics and change. There will be snacks and refreshments!

Interested in a year of service after graduation? Take a break on  Monday, November 13, from 2-3 p.m. to meet with Lutheran Volunteer Corps (LVC) representatives. Talk about service over coffee and treats in Valders 374! Elizabeth Flomo and her colleague will be on campus from Sunday, November 12 to Monday, November 13 and are very excited to speak with Luther people about service in other parts of the world! Hope to see you there.

The ELCA LIFE in Service tour is coming to Luther on Sunday, November. Shopping Shuttle -- The Diversity Center will have a Decorah Walmart shopping shuttle running from 2:00-5:00 pm on Saturday, November 11.  This is open to all students and there is no charge, but reservations are requested, please register here . Students should meet in front of the Union.  
 
The Luther College Music Department will host a general student recital at 9:40 a.m. Tuesday, November 14, in the Noble Recital Hall of the Jenson Noble Hall of Music. This event features various Luther performers, ensembles and soloists. Students are selected to perform by an application process. 
 
Children's Bargain Book Sale -- November 6-17 stop in the Book for our annual sale of children's book ranging from $1-$6. This is a great way to start your holiday shopping and future teachers this is a great way to start your own library for your future students. The earlier you stop in the better the chance to find your perfect book.
 
Signed Books -- If you could not attend the Brad Gregory book signing for, Rebel in the Ranks, stop in the Book Shop we still have a few signed copies left.

Ryan Sallans: "Gender Transitions: Scouting the Unknown" -- Author of  Second Son: Transitioning Toward My Destiny, Love, and Life, Sallans will present a lecture detailing his struggle with body image, an eating disorder, and coming out as transgender. He will explore themes of gender identity and expression and provide insight on how to best to foster trans-inclusivity on our campus. Wednesday, November 8, 6 p.m., Valders 206. SAC Cinema presents Wreck-It Ralph! This Disney film follows an arcade game villain who rebels against his role and aims to fulfill his dream of being a hero, but causes chaos for everyone around him in the process. Wreck-It Ralph is showing on Friday, November 10 at 7:30 p.m. in Valders 206! Admission is FREE with CAF or $5 without. It's The Most Wonderful Time of the Year? Maybe not for everyone. Counseling Service and Residence Life are sponsoring Handling the Holidays workshops which will identify and provide tips around the various challenges of holiday breaks for students, as well as how to support friends who may struggle. November 9, 8:00 p.m. in Brandt Social Lounge, 9:00 p.m. in Ylvisaker Study Lounge and November 14, 8:00 p.m. in Mott Room, Dahl Centennial Union. Free holiday cookies provided!

Interested in stress-free holidays and finals? Find out how to move with ease using Alexander Technique. Students from all areas are welcome to join guest artist Laura Donnelly for an open masterclass from 6:30-8:00 p.m. on Tuesday, November 7, in Studio One, Center for the Arts. Sponsored by Luther College Wellness Program.
 
"Envisioned Worlds: Lithographs from the Hokes Archives," a collection of works depicting imaginary cultures with fabricated artifacts and hand printed bookplates, will be on display in the Kristen Wigley-Fleming Fine Arts Gallery in the Center for the Arts until December 8. Beauvais Lyons, director of the Hokes Archives, created all of the works in the exhibit. Lyons will give a presentation about his work at 6:30 p.m., Thursday, November 9.
WINTER BIKE STORAGE is on Thursday, November 16 and Friday, November 17 from 3-6 p.m. Please bring your bike to Ashmore-Jewell Barn (Red Barn in Baker Village) to have it placed in secure, dry storage for the winter. Bike storage is FREE for all Luther students. Bikes must be registered at the Welcome Desk in the Union prior to being stored. Bikes will not be accepted unless they are registered.  
Stress Less Wellness Fair is Thursday 11/16 -- Wellness is hosting a health fair on Thursday, November 16 from 9:30 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. in Williams Lounge of the Union. A variety of opportunities will be available to help you stress less during the holiday season and the end of the semester crunch. Giveaways, free chair massages, blood pressure checks, flu shots, demonstrations, and more! Mark your calendars to swing by!
 
Chapel Note: Cathedral Choir will be singing on Wednesday, November 15 and NOT this coming Wednesday, November 8.
 
Refresh and De-stress November 9, from 6-8 p.m. in the Union, Mott-Borlaug Room. Four senior Social Work majors, in conjunction with other campus organizations, are providing a time and space to come and practice self-care in community. Come for the full 2 hours, or just stop by for 10 minutes to enjoy some yoga, art projects, snacks, meditation, and more with friends. All are welcome!
 
Art Exhibit -- Featuring a sequential series of photo collages with text created by Luther College alumna Sarah Frydenlund, "Rush In," is on display through December 15 in Preus Library.  
 
Luther College's brass ensembles will perform at 7 p.m. Wednesday, November 8, in the Center for Faith and Life Main Hall. The concert features a performance of Michael Smith's composition "Out of the Depths, I Cry to Thee." This work was composed for the Commemoration of the 500th anniversary of the Reformation and premiered during the Commemoration Service October 31. The piece features both the Luther College brass faculty and student performers.
 
The Luther College Jazz Band is performing a concert at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, November 7, in the Center for Faith and Life, Main Hall. The concert program features various styles of music from swing to funk to mambo and will include works from Stan Kenton, Oliver Nelson, Thad Jones and Neal Hefti. The Luther jazz combo Midnight Institute will perform "Lester Leaps In" by Lester Young. The quartet includes students Ben Ostrem and Peter Mathistad, tenor saxophone; Andrew Moore, guitar, Caleb Bendull, bass; and Josh Van Sant, drums.
 
Luther College's Philharmonia Orchestra will perform a concert at 7:30 p.m. Thursday, November 9, in the Main Hall of the Center for Faith and Life. The evening's music features the Reformation Cantata, "Out of the Depths," by Brooke Joyce. In addition, they will perform Concerto Grosso in F Major, Op. 6, No. 2; Fugue in Four Keyes on "The Shining Shore"; "Slane; "Serenade for Strings"; and "Jazz Pizzicato".
