Resiliency Summit Keynote Speakers: 
James Jones & Dr. Karlee Fellner

We're excited to announce James Jones and Karlee Fellner as keynote speakers for the Fall 2017 Resiliency Summit!

James Jones is an artist and traditional hoop dancer from Tallcree First Nation in Northern Alberta. James has toured and danced all over the world with hip hop trio, A Tribe Called Red.

Dr. Karlee Fellner is Cree/Métis from central Alberta. She is currently assistant professor in Indigenous Education Counselling Psychology at the University of Calgary. Karlee's work focuses on decolonizing and Indigenizing health services, curriculum and pedagogy, research, and counselling through Indigenous ways of knowing.

Healthy Active Schools Symposia


There's still a few dates left for our Healthy Active Schools Symposia (HASS) provincial tour! These events are a great opportunity to empower your students to take an active leadership role in creating healthy school communities this year.

We're committed to supporting school teams so they can apply the knowledge they gain at HASS when they return to their school communities. 

School teams can also apply for seed funding grants of up to $750 to help implement their action plans and bring their big vision into reality.

Youth Run Club

GO! Run Program Launch



On October 19th, students from Delton and Lauderdale schools in Edmonton participated in a fun run to celebrate the launch of GO! Run - a free, fun and flexible 'Girls Only' running program that aims to help close the gender gap and increase girls' participation in physical activity. 

An offshoot of the AMA Youth Run Club program, these new clubs allow girls to focus on age-appropriate skill development while building confidence and self-esteem in a fun and inclusive environment. Check out the Global News Edmonton segment about GO! Run. 




HPEC 2018 Conference: Finding Balance


The Health and Physical Education Council (HPEC) invites school health and physical education teachers to register for their 2018 Conference in Calgary, May 3rd - 5th, 2018.

World Kindness Day

November 13th  is World Kindness Day One way to participate is to encourage students to engage in random acts of kindness. Sitting by someone who is alone at lunch, writing a thank you note or giving a compliment are just a few ideas. 
Bullying Awareness Week
November 13th - 17th is Bullying Awareness Week. Check out the Caught You Caring Campaign for ideas to support and empower students to create schools and communities that are safer and more caring places to live, learn and play. 
National Child Day
November 20th is National Child Day. This year's these focuses on the right to be safe. Check out the National Child Day School Resource Kit for planning ideas.
Grant Opportunities!

Deadline: November 15th 

This grant helps schools create or maintain an edible school garden project that promotes engagement and access to fresh fruits and vegetables.


Deadline: Varies

These Alberta Emerald Foundation provides micro-grants of up to $500 for youth-led and youth-targeted environmental projects and initiatives.

Being healthy and active at a young age sets you up for a healthier lifestyle when you're older. Working hard now builds a foundation to work hard when you're older and there's not a lot more special on this planet than a hard worker.
