Tozier's Turkey Trek - Sunday, November 19
Sunday, November 19, 2017. Registration at 11am – Your quest starts at 12:00pm

Entry fee $4.00 a person or $2.00 a person with a toiletry donation for the Bucksport community Concerns pantry or Pet Supplies for the Bucksport Animal Shelter.

What are we racing for?
Like a traditional scavenger hunt, you’ll meet at the beginning, split into teams and compete against each other. There are 4 hidden Turkey Idols, all within 30 minutes of Bucksport. Teams receive a clue sheet at the start of the race. Each clue will lead you to an idol or other challenge. As teams complete each challenge, which may have them find cool things, solve riddles, take goofy photos and more, they’ll upload their pictures to the Tozier’s Turkey Trek event page on Facebook. If done correctly, each time your team will be entered in the drawing for a turkey fryer. The teams that retrieve the Idols, complete the Idol Picture Challenges and bring them back to the chamber will be awarded a frozen turkey Certificate (Thanks to Tozier’s Family Markets). Limit one TURKEY idol per team.
I want in! When and where do I need to be?
The race officially begins at 12 PM, November 19, 2017 so please arrive at the Bucksport Bay Area Chamber of Commerce office, 52 Main Street, Bucksport at 11 AM. There will be a check-in desk to pay your entry fee and receive your team bibs. Clues will be handed out to the team captains right before the race begins. You only have two hours to complete your quest! Teams will be disqualified if they have not returned to the chamber by 2:00pm.
BBACC Kicks Off #ThinkLocalFirst Campaign in Bucksport on Small Business Saturday
Everyone is invited on Small Business Saturday, November 25th to help us cut a ribbon across Main Street in Bucksport at 10 a.m. to officially open the holiday shopping season. We encourage all other towns in our area to do the same. We'd love to see a ribbon cutting in your town. Contact us if you need help organizing your own ribbon cutting across your downtown area. Supporting independently owned businesses helps all of us in our community not just at the holidays but all year round. Invite everyone to come and shop, dine and enjoy the seasons best.

#ThinkLocalFirst
As part of our month long celebration we are bringing back a contest where shoppers can win a prize! $100 Cash Prize provided by Main Street Bucksport and the BookStacks “Still Mill” prize package. Entries will be accepted from Small Business Saturday through January 1, 2018!
We need your help to encourage your customers to shop local and show them how they can win! Anytime someone shops with you for goods or services and “Thinks Local First” they can present their receipt to the Chamber and fill out a ballot to enter to win. Another way shoppers can qualify is if they take a selfie while shopping with you,  “check-in” to your business and submit it to the Chamber's Facebook page using the hashtag #thinklocalfirst.  Look for the Shop at Home Poster at local businesses to sign the pledge to #thinklocalfirst.

Loving Vincent
November 17-19, 2017
Animation/Biography/Crime
94 minutes
PG-13

On the 27th of July, 1890, a gaunt figure stumbled down a drowsy high street at twilight in the small French country town of Auvers. The man was carrying nothing; his hands clasped to a fresh bullet wound leaking blood from his belly. This was Vincent van Gogh, then a little known artist; now the most famous artist in the world. His tragic death has long been known, what has remained a mystery is how and why he came to be shot. Loving Vincent tells that story.

(Please click each heading for more information)

Get ready today to file your 2017 federal income tax return. Changes for the tax filing season include ITINs, delays in refunds and validating your electronically filed return.

Your ITIN may expire before you file a tax return in 2018. All ITINs not used on a federal tax return at least once in the last three years will expire on December 31, 2017. Additionally, all ITINs issued before 2013 with middle digits of 70, 71, 72 or 80 (Example: (9XX-70-XXXX) will expire at the end of the year.

If you claim the earned income tax credit (EITC) or the additional child tax credit (ACTC) on your tax return, the IRS must hold your refund until at least February 15 — even the portion not associated with EITC or ACTC.

When self-preparing your taxes and filing electronically, you must sign and validate your electronic tax return by entering your prior-year Adjusted Gross Income (AGI) or your prior- year Self-Select PIN. Using an electronic filing PIN is no longer an option.

FREE Senior Exercise Class Begins in Bucksport in January
Seniors, Be Safe and Become Stronger through Bone Builders
In collaboration with the Bucksport Area Senior Center, the University of Maine Center on Aging is planning to offer a free senior exercise class beginning in January called Bone Builders through its Retired and Senior Volunteer Program (RSVP). The class will be held Mondays and Wednesdays from 1-2:30pm.

Osteoporosis is a condition in which bone mineral density decreases, resulting in the bones becoming thin, brittle, and easily fractured. According to the National Institutes of Health, 10 million Americans already have osteoporosis and 34 million more have low bone mass, placing them at increased risk for the disease. The RSVP Bone Builders Osteoporosis Exercise and Prevention Program is an evidence-based program originally developed by researchers at Tufts University who found that adults can improve their strength and fitness at any age. Researchers have demonstrated that this low-impact weight-training exercise program can improve balance, bone density, and muscle strength, and promote increased leisure time physical activity in seniors. These improvements reduce the risk of falls which can have devastating health and financial effects on older adults, in some cases, compromising their ability to live independently.

Bone Builders requires two trained leaders. We are looking for candidates who are 55 years of age or older, with medical clearance, willing to undergo training both in leadership and in conducting osteoporosis education and exercise classes. Once trained, the lay leader will undergo periodic monitoring and a yearly retraining.

Bone Builder classes accommodate 12-15 male and female participants who are 50 years of age and older with stable health (medical clearance is required). Classes run one and a half hours and meet twice weekly for six months or longer.
If you are interested in leading or attending a Bone Builders class in Bucksport, contact Paula Burnett at the UM Center on Aging RSVP at (207) 262-7926 or paula.burnett@ maine.edu .
RSVP Bone Builders receives partial funding from the United Way of Eastern Maine and the Corporation for National and Community Service.

CamdenCircle brings to life the bank’s vision of providing simple, secure, and innovative banking products and services. As the CamdenCircle effort has developed, customer loyalty has increased significantly as measured through ongoing listening channels, including customer surveys and a newly launched feedback submission portal.

Seasonal Affective Disorder

Too often, Mainers disregard symptoms of Seasonal Affective Disorder (SAD) as simple the "winter blues." Prolonged feelings of sadness, changes in appetite and weight, low energy, and loss of interest in activities you once enjoyed are just a few symptoms of SAD that people may experience during the change in season.

David Harlan, LCSW, will explain when the "winter blues" could be something more serious and will discuss treatments available, such as light therapy, antidepressants and exercise therapy. As always, light refreshments will be served.
