Performers from  "I am not A Stereotype"

The "I am not a Stereotype" Performance hosted on Recovery Day was stunning.  Congratulations to FTR's Service Coordinator Rachel Santizo on her powerful accomplishment.

"Sobriety forms connections with people which otherwise might not have been so easily created. The commonality of sobriety can bring any person together in unity. In sobriety, "where you come from", "what you look like", and "how you were raised" is irrelevant. What matters is the pricelessness of the human experience."   ~ Rachel Santizo

Rachel's next big event is Project Homeless Connect on  10/6/17  @ the Salt Palace from  9 am - 3 pm .     https://www.phcslc.org/
We have over 80 service providers for this day and over 800 volunteers. We are calling it a "Day of Hope" for one day our homeless friends and will be receiving services from medical, dental, haircuts, pet care, massages, housing intakes, employment assistance, VA services, financial services.  Come join us, it is sure to be a magical and necessary,  day for the less fortunate.

FTR has a team of 10 for"client hospitality" at this event. Their role is to give hugs and welcome the clients, helping to make sure they feel comfortable and welcomed throughout the day.

So many people have signed up to volunteer. We cannot wait to feel this event!

Fitness:  Behind the Burpees Blog and TSC

TSC is this month!  It is not too late to sign up.  Team FTR will be there to cheer you on, so even if you have never participated in a Tactical Strength Challenge, think of it as just another day in the gym.  On October 28th we will be testing our strength in a friendly competition of max pull-ups, max dead lift and a 5 minute snatch test.  Not competing?  Come cheer your friends on!  It is just as important to support those who compete.

In the gym our trainers see many inspiring moments every week.  In a collaboration between the Fitness and Creative Expression Pillars  Behind the Burpees is a new blog written by trainers to showcase these moments of triumph.  At FTR our goal is to grow strong in all areas, physically, mentally, and emotionally.

Do you have a golden nugget from the gym?

Nutrition/Food To Recover:  Guest Chef and Meal Prep
Guest Chef Billy Sotelo from La Caille

FTR September Guest Chef:  Guest chef was Billy Sotelo from La Caille restaurant.

Chef Billy led attendees through a true Italian meal; beginning with garden fresh heirloom tomatoes, boiled down into a rich sauce with just fresh garlic, salt and olive oil. He then demonstrated how to make fresh pasta dough from 4 simple ingredients again: flour, eggs, salt, and olive oil. FTR members enjoyed kneading the dough and preparing it for the ravioli press. After a quick cheese filling was made, members were invited to press the ravioli into the mold and fill it with cheese before sealing with with an egg wash. Finally, we boiled the ravioli briefly and garnished it with fresh basil from the garden. It was hard work, but after one bite, it was all worth it!

Community Meal Prep: Tuesday 17th from 5:30-7  Sign up here by hitting "going" for a list of a few ingredients to bring. We will all gather in the FTR kitchen and prep 5-6 meals for the week to guarantee you have healthy and varied meals in your fridge! Connect with your food, connect with friends!

Creative Arts: Art 101 New Class

Artist:  Mikelle Poulson FTR member

Our first night of  Art 101 was a hit!  There are still spots available.  We are learning about paint mixing, value scale, different painting styles, and composition.  Students in this class will get the opportunity to build skills while working towards one finished piece.

All the art inside of our FTR gym has been painted by the community.  As treatment center clients add their marks to the walls, the color and energy spreads. Look for new additions to our murals!   Also, keep an eye out for our Kettlebell Painting  event next month.

River writing is flowing strong.
With two full sessions running, the River Reading is sure to be powerful.  Join us at FTR on December 1st for a night of poetry and prose.
Mix & Match your FTR Pillars

In one year, FTR has doubled the number of treatment centers it serves from six to 12. What's most exciting, in addition to serving more people in recovery, is that our treatment partners are mixing and matching pillars that work best for them. Some are exercise only; some combine exercise and nutrition; some choose exercise and art. There are any number of ways treatment centers and sober living houses can involve their clients in our safe, active, healthy community. Contact Georgia Gregersen for our menu of services!
