Fall 2017 Newsletter
Dear Friend,

Turning from the delights of New England summer to the fall, we are met with pounding storms, raging fires, blazing heat, political turmoil, existential threat and carnage. Our work has never been more urgent. (Don't I say that each time? WHAT is going on?!)

What's NEW at Climate Creatives: a United Nations affiliation; Speaking events at AREDAY and EarthDayTX; intensive Corporate Sustainability Engagement Program; workshops for Mediation, Collaboration, and Civil Discourse; scaling and building all of our programs.  We have planted many more new seeds and expect to see the fruits next summer.

We need your help: as we look for clients to grow our impact, you are our best ambassador. If you know of a business in need of stakeholder & employee engagement, and community or campus outreach, we have programs for each. Our offerings for campus sustainability leadership training and community engagement programs keep growing. Additionally, we  are seeking funding to sustain existing and new public art engagements, including Rising Waters. 

Happy New Year to those in our community who observe the Jewish New Year - may it be healthy, peaceful and productive as we strive to repair our broken world.

United Nations: Rising Waters at the UN Ocean Conference

Climate Creatives now is a partner of the United Nations Small Island Developing States Global Business Network. See our blog post this week here.  


The United Nations exhibited photographs of Rising Waters Guna Yala (Panama) for The Ocean Conference  in June. We are grateful to our host - the UN Office of the High Representative for the Least Developed Countries, Landlocked Developing Countries, and Small Island Developing States (UN-OHRLLS) - for inviting us to attend their meeting, and including Rising Waters/Climate Creatives in their Small Island Developing States Global Business Network video and community as well.


Global Advocacy for the Sustainable Development of Small Island Developing States Through Durable Private Sector Partnerships

The Small Island Developing States Global Business Network (SIDS-GBN) is an online platform and resource hub to share best practices and lessons learned in support of private sector partnerships for small island developing states (SIDS). The network forges collaboration among SIDS regional private sector organisations and works towards strengthening inter-regional business alliances, catalyzing and encouraging international businesses to focus on SIDS as potential market opportunities and vice versa.  

The SIDS-GBN also fosters greater awareness of the importance of sustainable development as a guide to promoting dynamic business sectors in line with the SAMOA Pathway and the UN's 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development and Sustainable Development Goals.

Communicating Climate Creatively

I was honored to join panelists Varushka Francesci of Shapeshift Dream Productions and Mark David of OTG Productions with moderator Michael Cain of EarthX Films at AREDAY 2017 to talk about Communicating Climate Creatively, and to be so warmly welcomed into the AREDAY community.

AREDAY , founded by Sally Ranney, is an incredible gathering of passionate and dedicated souls who are convened by the American Renewable Energy Institute (AREI) for four days each June in Aspen to find each other to accelerate climate work. T he mission of AREI is to create vibrant and powerful cross-sector dialogue, commitments, collaborations, and investments that foster climate change solutions at the speed and scale necessary to phase out fossil fuels and usher in a rapid transition to a new clean energy economy.

EarthDay Texas 2017: Rising Waters and Bridging the Divide
Transpartisan Climate Communication

Along with our exhibition of Rising Waters photographs at EarthDay Texas, I spoke  about using public art and creative exercises to bridge the political divide on a panel that explored ways to move climate work forward in a divided country. I was honored to join Morrow Cater, President and Founding Principal of Cater Communications; Andrea Strimling Yodsampa, Phd, CEO of DEPLOY/US; and Marilu Hastings, VP of Sustainability Programs of the Cynthia and George Mitchell Foundation, with Moderator Sally Ranney, President & Founder of AREI, Co-Founder of WECAN & CEO of Stillwater Preservation.    

Rising Waters continues to be installed and photographs will be on tour- contact us to host an exhibition,  or support/participate in an installation expedition.
