Celebrates 120 Years of Excellence in Education
On October 4, 1897, Lake Street School District 20 opened the doors of a one room schoolhouse with nine students and one teacher (photo at right).
Click the photo to read more about the history of KESD20.
Sometime in the 1920s a new school was built and by 1930, Lake Street School had two classrooms and eighteen students. The photo above is documented to be from the 1950s.

Today, 120 years later, Keeneyville Elementary School District 20, has over 1,500 students in three buildings and a staff of 198.

During the 2017 - 2018 school year, we plan to celebrate our rich past while sharing our continued mission to ignite the power and potential of each student!

Plans are underway to create an exhibit that will travel to each of our schools this spring. If you have any District 20 memorabilia for the exhibit, please contact, Teri Wood, District 20 Public Relations, at [email protected]. All items will be returned at the end of the school year.

Ignite the power and potential of each student!

Board Salute Recognition
On Thursday, September 28 during the Keeneyville ESD20 Board of Education meeting, Kathy Poulopoulos and Jennifer Reynolds received Board Salutes for the tremendous dedication to District 20 students.

The Board Salute program was created by the KESD20 Board of Education in 2012 as a way to celebrate faculty, staff, parents and community members that go above and beyond the call of duty in support of students and families.

Greenbrook third grade teacher, Kathy Poulopoulos was nominated by Emmie Pawlak for her work creating two-way communication with parents and focusing on developing strong writing skills with her students. Mrs. Poulopoulos was also recognized for receiving the Celebrating Teachers Initiative Award from the DePaul College of Education. Sixth grade special education teacher and Enrichment Coordinator, Jennifer Reynolds was nominated by Jodie Reid for her dedication to the Enrichment program at Greenbrook and Waterbury. Not only does she offer many opportunities for students to think critically she also showcases their creativity during an expo which brings students together to share work with peers and family members. District 20 News and Announcements
The District 20 1:1 roll out is complete and all second through eighth grade students have a Chromebook to use on a daily basis. We are looking forward to sharing how students are utilizing this cutting edge technology in future newsletters.

Parents are encouraged to visit the District 20 Technology webpage to review the Chromebook handbook and to read instructions on how to log into a Chromebook.

Parents have asked "why do elementary students have bags to carry their Chromebooks while middle school students have cases?"  Here is the rationale for Chromebook bags vs. cases:

District administrators wanted middle school Chromebooks to be in a case at all times because students carry them from  class to class throughout the school day. In consultation with other districts, it was found that a sleeve or a case is only good when the Chromebook is in it. Since cases are difficult to remove, it was decided to make sure that Chromebooks that were carried throughout the school were always protected and that is why resources for cases were used at the middle school level.

District 20 Participates in Habitat for Humanity #WomenBuild Event

Hello, everyone!  You may have noticed our new ECC sign in front of the building. We are excited to have another way to communicate with you about upcoming events. Please make sure you check the sign as you're dropping off and picking up your children. Speaking of dropping off and picking up, please click here for an important reminder about our safety procedures.

We are looking forward to our field trip to Sonny Acres on Friday, October 20. We hope the kids and parents enjoy all that the farm has to offer, including animals, a wagon ride and a (mild) spook house. Everything is outside that day, so please dress accordingly. We encourage parents to come and enjoy this fun day with your kids, but if you are unable to attend and would still like your child to go, please have your child here by 8:50 a.m. (we will leave at 9:00 a.m.) and be here to pick them up at 12:00 p.m. Information has been sent home, so please talk to your child's teacher if you have any questions.  Thanks!   -Mandy Aubry, Assistant Principal for Early Childhood Education
