Greetings Eagle Chapter Members and Friends!

Above, Eagle Chairman, Lee Chambers, and his son, Daniel, select the winning raffle ticket number for the Eagle Chapter 20th Anniversary 9mm Sig Sauer P320 Nitron Carry.
Last month when we published the previous newsletter, we were just days away from the Pentagon luncheon and the fourth event in our chapter's 20th Anniversary US Air Force Security Forces Celebration, the Sig Sauer 9mm P320 Nitron Carry Raffle Event. Sig Sauer donated this weapon in support of the Eagle Chapter 20th Anniversary celebration.    Please see below for the details of our winner.
October, we kicked off our four month donation drive and to see it got off to a fizzle would be an understatement.  We had only two donations that accounted for $75.00.  Compared to last year - $155.00 and $775.00 in 2015.  I'll bet that like many of our readers, we just got so busy that we didn't get around to making your annual donation - yours truly included.  I'm making my donation tonight.  We sure hope that you will join me.  Unlike Uncle Sam, we can't operate at a deficit. :-) I look forward to receiving your donations.
The easiest way to donate is to go to any Eagle Chapter web page - click here and scroll to the bottom and click on the Donate button.  You can also send a check or money order to our PO Box. See PO Box info below.
Late in October, I received a surprise phone call from the White House.  Nick Clemens of the White House Communications Office, called me to express the President's regrets in not having the congratulatory letter in time for our chapter luncheon at the Pentagon.  Please take a look below. I think you'll agree that the Commander in Chief's expression of his and the First Lady's congratulations clearly hit the target. We are very grateful for their recognition of our US Air Force Security Forces.
Thank-you for your continuing support. Please consider donating during to our annual donation drive. Your donations during these three  remaining months -  November through January - will determine the vitality of our chapter activities for 2018.  We have a lot on our plate; but, can't get out of the starting blocks without your support.  Again, click here to get the ball started to make up for our very slow start in October.

Very respectfully,

Lee

The Absolute Cutest Wreath Laying That You Will Ever See! - Eagle Chapter at the Women's Memorial on Veterans Day

These photos speak for themselves.  Thanks to Karl Blinkinsop, Eagle Chapter Vice Chair Air Force District of Washington, and his daughters for laying the Eagle Chapter Wreath at the Veterans Day Ceremony at the Women's Memorial at Arlington National Cemetery. This Veterans Day marked the 20th Anniversary Veterans Day Observance at the Women's Memorial.  We look forward to the opportunity to participate each year.

With the Air Force District Of Washington assuming the operation of the Air Force Memorial from the Air Force Association, there is no formal Air Force level wreath laying program at the Air Force Memorial for Veterans Day.

This year with Trudy still being in recovery, we decided to only buy wreath for the one program where the chapter participates in formal wreath laying activities.  Trudy's cost for just buying the material only is just about what it costs for one wreath. It would have been cost prohibitive to place wreaths at the other memorials if we were to buy them commercially.  So this year we did not place wreaths at the Air Force Memorial, Vietnam War Veterans Memorial, Vietnam War Women Veterans Memorial, Korean War Veterans Memorial and the World War II Veterans Memorial as we've done in the past.

Trudy is on the mend.  She needs help to make our wreaths by Police Week and Memorial Day.  If you live in the Tidewater area and you can help, please let me know.

And the Winner is....
Ticket Number 603 - The purchaser bought this ticket on the first day of the AF Security Forces Association's Annual Meeting in Arlington, VA.

Until the first day of the annual meeting, the chapter's ticket sales were very slow.  Only two purchasers had bought tickets. With Chief Master Sergeant (Retired) James Fullwood's purchase of tickets number 601 - 605, our ticket sales received a big shot in the arm as we sold 119 tickets at the annual meeting (including the six that I bought and donated to the National Anthem singer, color guard and their officer in charge).  Altogether we sold 191 total tickets.  The chief was our first purchaser on the first day of the annual meeting.  Again, Chief thank you for your support.

Above, the winner of the Eagle Chapter 20th Anniversary USAF SF 9mm Raffle, Chief Jim Fullwood, of the Ron Blatman Evergreen Chapter

After the raffle drawing, I called Chief Fullwood to inform him that he had won and to thank him for his support.  I sent the Sig Sauer certificate that allows the Chief to claim his weapon through his local dealer in coordination with Sig Sauer.  The Chief has promised to send me one more photo when he obtains his weapon.  Congratulations Chief!

For those that bought tickets and didn't win the weapon, you are helping us to continue serving our Air Force Security Forces Airmen, their families, our members and our heritage.  We all are winners.  Thanks again!
Eagle Chapter's Third 20th Anniversary USAF Security Forces Luncheon Celebration Held at the Pentagon

Above, Brigadier General (Retired) James Shamess and Chief Master Sergeant Tamala "Tammy" Hartz, Headquarters US Air Force Security Forces Manager and Senior Enlisted Advisor, cut the 20th Anniversary Celebration Cake at the Pentagon. Chief Master Sergeant (Retired) Daryl Janicki former career field manager participates.

The day or so before our luncheon, General Harris' exec informed me that our keynote speaker for our luncheon, Lieutenant General Stayce Harris, Air Force Assistant Vice Chief of Staff, was ill and was away on convalescent leave.   She would not return to duty for several weeks.  So, Chief Janicki, who was one of the architects of the Air Force Security Forces in 1997 at the creation of the career field in it's current form, just moved up from being a guest speaker to our keynote speaker.

Chief Master Sergeant (Retired) Daryl Janicki and his wife, Cathy, at the Eagle Chapter Luncheon at Dover on September 26, 2017.

I want to give a special shout out to Chief Janicki.  The Chief attended all three of the Eagle Chapter USAF SF 20th Anniversary luncheon celebrations.  He drove down to Langley, up to Dover (with his wife, Cathy) and again drove in to the Pentagon taking days off from his job to be our speaker at each of the chapter luncheons.  I know he doesn't do this for the cool chapter mementoes.  The Chief continues to serve!  He is willing to give back and his telling the story of how our career field formed up to be the career field that it is today was a huge way of giving to our Airmen and family members who attended our chapter luncheons.  Again, Chief, we greatly thank-you for your support!

Above, Brigadier General (Retired) Shamess signs the chapter's Get Well Card for Gen Harris.

I want to thank those who attended our Pentagon Luncheon for taking the time to sign the Get Well card that the chapter sent to General Harris. Above, General Shamess begins the signing process with Chief Hartz following.  Again thanks to all that signed. I received a very nice note from the exec regarding the thoughtfulness of our chapter.

By the way, Lt General Harris, who had agreed to be our keynote speaker, but fell ill and could not attend has recovered and received some very good news.
Earlier this month, the Senate approved President Trump's nomination of her to become the next US Air Force Inspector General.  Totally AWESOME!
Pentagon Force Protection Agency Police Chief Hosts Eagle Chapter Luncheon Attendees

Following the Eagle Chapter luncheon at the Pentagon, Police Chief Woodrow "Woody" Kusse hosted chapter attendees in his facility where he provided an overview of the police agency's activities at the Pentagon.

Chief Kusse is an Eagle Chapter member who moved up from the rank and file in PFPA to become the police chief of the agency.

Chief Kusse retired from the Air Force in the frade of Chief Master Sergeant.  Thank-you Chief Kusse for your support!

Eagle Chapter's Final 20th Anniversary Event - A Congratulatory Letter to our US Air Force Security Forces from the Commander in Chief

President Trump (and Melania) Congratulates USAF SF  As you know, we have announced four events to help our Air Force celebrate the 20th  Anniversary of the US Air Force Security Forces. These included the three celebratory luncheons at Dover, Langley and the Pentagon, special mementoes (Defensor Fortis Flag, pen, and luncheon programs) plus the 20th Anniversary 9mm raffle. Known only to our board members, we had a fifth event.

Back in May, I began our discussion with the White House to request the Commander in Chief provide his congratulations to our Security Forces.  At the time with the new administration being only a few months old, they told us that there was no process yet in place to provide the letter that we had requested. We were even told that it wouldn't happen.  But as you know, I don't give up plus we had great support from Gen Laster's office (HQ US Marine Corps Staff at the Pentagon) and the military liaison at the White House.

Late in October, I received a call from the White House expressing the President's regret that the letter could not be provided in time for our Pentagon Luncheon.  However the President would sign a letter and we'd get it as a digital file.  When the letter arrived it had so many restrictions on use that we could not use it in the manner that we had planned post luncheon.  Again, we persevered, continued our persistence and just last week, we obtained permission to place the President's letter in our newsletter.  On behalf of Eagle Chapter to our US Air Force Security Forces worldwide, please click here to see the Commander in Chief's congratulatory letter.

Thanks to Karl, Eagle Chapter's Vice Chair of our Air Force District of Washington Wing, for hanging in there and helping with 'strategizing' until we received the best possible results.

Please join me in thanking our Commander in Chief and the First Lady for their recognition of our US Air Force Security Forces on their 20th anniversary.

Eagle Vice Chairman Maryland Wing Resigns

When Bill (Sarge) Garlitz informed me that he needed to move on, to me that translated into - "Lee I can't attend board meetings any more." I know the Sarge will continue to serve.

He's been with us since the beginning. He was the association's state representative for Maryland back when the association had state reps for each state. He was part of the mentoring cadre of association leaders (like Pete Piazza then Vice President of AFSFA) that helped me form up the chapter in it's current structure.

So when Sarge resigned, he's just saying he's not going to attend board meetings any more. He'll still be there and in fact we'll continue to ride his coat tails to help with sending CARE packages down range to deployed Security Forces Airmen who will be away from home during the holidays.  We look forward to your many years of support! We'll miss his contributions at our board meetings.

Eagle Chapter Board Meeting - December 6

Our next chapter board meeting will be held on Wednesday, December 6, 2017 at 8:00PM. Eagle Chapter Board Meetings are open to members and significant others who would like to participate.

We hold our chapter board meetings on the first Wednesday of the month at 8PM via conference call.

Contact the Eagle Chapter Secretary, Chris Walker, for more information.

In closing, the photos at left show the images of the police and corrections officials who lost their lives in the line of duty since my October chapter newsletter.  Eleven times, the National Law Enforcement Officers Memorial notified me of another police officer or corrections official who had died in the line of duty. The most recent being a local, Detective Sean Suiter, top left, of Baltimore City Police Department. Detective Suiter was shot in the head while he was investigating a suspicious person during a homicide investigation.  Every day, police and corrections officials (the moms and dads, sons and daughters, husbands and wives shown above) leave their homes and families with a passion to serve - to make their communities safe. The family members of these officers will see their first Thanksgiving without their beloved family member at their table.  Please remember these families in your Thanksgiving observance and when you see a police officer, stand with them and let them know that you appreciate their service to our community.

Very best regards  and we hope you will consider donating during our annual donation drive.
