This week, CAMBA cut the ribbon on a new computer lab at our Flagstone Family Center in Brownsville and celebrated the opening of this state-of-the-art digital resource with Joanne M. Oplustil, President and CEO of CAMBA/CAMBA Housing Ventures, Administrator Joslyn Carter of NYC Department of Homeless Services, Dr. Barry Smith President and CEO of The Rogosin Institute and others from the community. The 14 computers at the shelter's two labs will be available for the adult clients as they search for housing, and for their children, who will have access to the lab for research and homework.

Malik Jones, a father of five who lives with his family at Flagstone, spoke to the gathering about the impact these computers have had on his life. Mr. Jones used the computers to enroll in a job training program, where he obtained his food protection certificate. In doing more research about jobs in the food industry within his neighborhood, Mr. Jones, a passionate cook, discovered the Brownsville Community Culinary Center and he is now enrolled in that center's training program. He added that he and his wife are very happy to report that they will be moving into their own apartment in a few weeks after searching for permanent housing using the donated computers.
