The Husky Fund is Launched!
What Level Will You Give At?

Ok, ok. I know. "Never finish a sentence with a preposition." Anyway . . .
Within the next few days you will receive our mailer for this year's Husky Fund, which combines the former Annual and Scholarship funds. I ask you to join me and the faculty and staff in once again supporting this vital campaign (all of us have already gladly given).

Gifts to The Husky Fund comprise an essential portion of RHP and Renaissance Schools' budget each year. These unrestricted contributions from parents, alumni families, grandparents, faculty staff, trustees, and friends, are put to use right away to provide much of what makes our schools thrive and grow, directly benefiting every student on a daily basis.

Junior class parents Sara and Mark Platte are graciously co-chairing this year's Husky Fund, and they are supported by class captains in each grade. You may expect to receive a phone call from your class captain in the very near future, encouraging your participation. With your support, we will achieve our goal of $750,000, in 100 days, with 100% current family participation.

Giving levels are clearly outlined in the mailer and on the website (click the button below to access the website). As you consider what level you are able to give at, we ask you to reflect on the impact our school and teachers have made and are making on your child and your family, and to give from the heart.

And, of course, remember that, while tuition is not tax deductible, all gifts to The Husky Fund are. In addition to donations made by check, cash, and credit card, we are also able to accept gifts of appreciated stock. With the various markets so high at the moment, the tax advantages of donating appreciated stock are more advantageous than they have ever been.

Boston to New York College Tour

Rolling Hills Prep and Renaissance are organizing a Boston to New York College Tour. This trip is an excellent opportunity for students to see a wide range of colleges and universities in a short period of time and will help them discover the school that fits for them.

The trip involves visits to at least 8 schools and each visit will include a meeting with an admissions representative and a school tour.

Discussing Gender Identity at RHP and Renaissance

On Thursday, November 16, we will be sharing two presentations on gender identity for (separately) middle and upper school students. The presentation falls under our "Respect Yourself and Others" guidelines within the Husky Pledge.

To help ensure that parents are informed about the presentation and also provided tools to talk with their children about these issues, we are holding a parent meeting prior to the student presentation as follows: (RSVPs are appreciated)

Tuesday, November 14th, 2017 from 4:30-5:30pm
"Gender Identity and Expression," a presentation by  Dr. Marvin Belzer, Director, Division of Adolescent and Young Adult Medicine, Keck USC School of Medicine.
Please join us for an informational event where Dr. Belzer will review the latest research in youth gender identity and expression, discuss how physicians and therapists support youth and their families, and provide information to assist parents to discuss these issues with their children.

Click below to RSVP by Sunday, November 12, 2017.

Aidan Prince

" Soon, I found that the reason my own self-esteem was rising was due to me releasing my stress through art. After all, I'm already good at thinking of imaginary situations to put myself in. So, why not put a character in that situation instead? And create a solution for these characters by making them come to life.

Art has now become the main way I decompress and relax. "

This past Thursday was Spirit Day for Anti-Bullying. RHP and Ren students, faculty, and administrators wore purple to show their support.

Ms. Begley's Middle School Science classes dissected sheep's brains to learn about the various structures present.

Our first Coffee House was on Thursday. Students and Alumni performed by singing, signing, dancing, and playing musical instruments. A video will come shortly.

Aubrey Sereno was named the San Pedro Rotary Club's Student of the Month. Congratulations Aubrey!
