This week and every week, parents should have conversations with their teens about the important rules they need to follow to stay safe behind the wheel of a passenger car.

In 2013, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration began the "5 to Drive" campaign.  This campaign gives parents and teens a simple, straightforward checklist that can help them talk about good driving skills and preventing a tragedy before it happens.

The topics are:
1. No cell phone use or texting while driving
2. No extra passengers
3. No speeding
4. No alcohol
5. No driving or riding without a seatbelt
