On September 28, 2017, U.S. Secretary of Education, Betsy DeVos, named Cedar Hill Prep School in Somerset, NJ as a 2017 National Blue Ribbon School of Excellence.

Preschool - Kindergarten News
All About Apples

Preschool's theme this week was "All About Apples." The students tasted red, yellow and green apples. Later in the week, the students observed a science experiment. Using vinegar and baking soda, they made the apple seeds jump in a cup. 

Jo hnn y Appleseed

The kindergarten children learned all about a real boy named Johnny Appleseed who lived over 200 years ago. He loved eating apples, planting apple seeds, and growing apple trees! The kindergarten children made a pot to wear as a hat... just like Johnny Appleseed!

Open Court Reading Program

Second Graders kicked off our Open Court Reading Program by playing phonemic awareness name games along with practicing the skill of partner reading.

Science and Art

2nd graders have been exploring how scientists think and work. They're learning the importance of recording their observations via notes and drawings, always paying attention to detail.

Second Grade Scientists
CHP appears to be home to many future scientists, including geologists, oceanographers, chemists, and astrophysicists! After learning about different types of scientists and how they work, 2nd graders created self-portraits which depicted them at work in a chosen field of science. They are eager to wonder, explore, and discover.

Healthy Smoothie Day
Mrs. Tierney's 8th grade Health Class has launched a "Healthy Breakfast and Snack Initiative." They hosted their first Healthy Smoothie Day here at CHP where they made fresh organic fruit and veggie smoothies for everyone to enjoy!

Parent Academy/ New Parent Orientation.
On September 6th, 2017, Cedar Hill Prep School started the 2017-2018 academic year with a New Parent Orientation. The day ended with the Home Room teachers running a Parent Academy to prepare the students (and their families) for a smooth transition back to school.

The entire CHP community met today to form the House System, which promotes leadership, teamwork and a sense of community.

CHP Wildcats Start the Season!
The girls lost a tough first game to Winfield 7-1, but they played very hard and showed lots of heart in their first game! Lilliana scored a goal for us...and the teamwork was great!
