SPECIAL ISSUE 2                                                                                                                                                                         OCTOBER 2017
It's auction time!

Our annual auction is second only to our pledge drive in terms of money raised in support of JUC's ministries that encourage us to Deepen to our truest selves, Connect authentically with others, and Engage with needs beyond our own. Unlike our pledges which we reflect upon and make privately, the auction invites us to enter the fray. Come for an evening of fun. There will be costumes, good food, and energy aplenty.

This year the church will be visually transformed by a circus theme. We will all be invited Under the Big Top to raise money for JUC, the place and the faith that takes us in and challenges us to grow in our ability to boldly live into our values. So, come early and bid often. Dress up or come as you are.

This year's auction will better implement the online bidding we began last year. If you are new among us, or for some reason missed last year's auction, we have an app for bidding. Through that app on your own cell phone, you can view the catalog of donated items, services, and gatherings on it, as well as enter your bid. For more information, please visit our auction website.

Rest assured your hard-working auction team led by Carolyn Thomas has kept us all in mind as it plans a fun evening for us, as we raise money for our church. Tickets for the auction will be sold on Sundays beginning on October 8, as well as online. There will be training on how to use the app (see below for sessions). And if cell phones and computers just aren't your thing, there will be people with iPads at the ready on the night of the auction to help you enter your bids early and often.

So mark your calendars for Saturday, November 11. Wear a costume or come as yourself. Let yourself connect in a spirit of fun and generosity.

See you there!

Wendy
Drum Roll Please. . . .
Come one, come all! Step right up to the greatest show on earth!

JUC's auction is rolling back into town to put the FUN in our grandest FUNdraiser of the year!

This event is the biggest and best party in town.  JUC  Under the Big Top offers you a night of memory-making with friends old and new; a chance to bid on unique items, experiences, and events; a costume contest that beats all...and you'll help us reach our goal of raising over $50,000 for JUC's annual budget.

But wait--there's more! What circus would be complete without a midway? Participate in carnival games, indulge in a cloud of cotton candy, and enjoy roving circus performers throughout the evening.

As the big night approaches, what can you do besides hone your tightrope skills or tame your lions?
  • BUY TICKETS online or at the auction table: Sundays, October 8 - November 5
  • DONATE at least one auction item, service, or event by Sunday, October 22
  • VOLUNTEER to help with the party! Whether you're a seasoned veteran or brand new to JUC, we need you!
  • Help solicit donations from businesses
  • Bring gently-used toys or purchase gift cards to kid-friendly venues for the children's auction
  • PURCHASE items in advance at a guaranteed price
  • Wear a costume
  • Invite your friends!
  • Can you juggle, walk on stilts, paint faces, or have another circus skill up your sleeve? We could use your talents at the Sunday morning auction table! Please contact Jane Keen.
If you're wondering what to donate, how to help, or have general auction questions, please stop by our table in the commons this month or email anytime.

Thank you,
Carolyn Thomas, Auction Chair

Under the Big Top
Come in costume for extra fun. How many Clowns will there be? Ring Leaders, Acrobats, and don't forget the Lion Tamer! Costume options abound!

Volunteers are needed to help transform JUC. Are you a creative, crafty type? Join the decorations team!

Please contact  Julie Duhegraham , Decorations Chair if you would like to help.
Children and Youth at the Auction
Step right up for the greatest auction on earth! This year's auction boasts all the fun that can be had under the big top -- including midways full of carnival games for adults and kids!

Like all great carnivals, this year's auction will take a caravan of workers to create the fun (and rake in the cash).

For the children's auction alone, we need folks to:
  • provide child care (paid positions)
  • construct games
  • run games
  • decorate the kids' space
  • donate good quality fun items for the Children's Auction, including gift cards or other fun stuff for tweens (Nice gently used items are OK.)
Please contact me if you'd like to help with any of these things. The auction table in the Commons on Sunday mornings will have a box for Children's Auction donations.

Make sure your kids join the fun! Purchase auction tickets for the whole family. Kids will be supervised all evening as they play carnival games, make circus crafts, test their abilities with (safe) circus challenges, eat a tasty dinner, bid on items in the Children's Auction, watch a fabulous show, and mellow out with popcorn and videos. (Let me know if your child has special food requirements.) Fun for the young and old!
