Julie's Jar
On "The Gathering"

Thank you for being First Christian Church of Pomona, a place where the edges of our region met on Oct. 22 nd. Thank you for being a people of tremendous Christian hospitality, without guile in the midst of fun and frustrations. I am deeply grateful especially to Ginger Eckeard, for spear heading our combined efforts. She regularly attended meetings of the planning committee, followed up with phone calls and much, much more. Those of you who had time and capacity pitched in and made the event "one of the best regional gatherings/assemblies ever in the PSWR". This was an oft heard and repeated phrase during and after the event.

That's right, you laid the foundations of hospitality, rolled with the changes, stepped up to serve when the ground shifted and made a place for God's Spirit to move more easily through the entire event. Sure, it's not rocket science, but we weren't making rockets. We were doing something that is even harder:  creating a safe and welcoming environment for people from a wide variety of backgrounds - theologically, politically, economically, socially, ethnically, etc.

Mike and I are so proud and grateful to serve such an amazing congregation that seeks to be a people of grace. May the grace of God fill you with whatever you need this week to be the creative child of God you are.

Reconciliation Ministry

Thanks Everyone for sharing your story through your treasure during the Reconciliation Ministry's Special Offering on September 24th and October 1st.
"Reconciliation Ministry strengthens each expression of the Church in its journey toward wholeness, to address brokenness caused by racism and the systems that perpetual it.  We accomplish this mission through intentional dialogue, inclusive worship and interactive education."

Your generosity is strengthening Regional racial and social justice witness in our camp and conference programs, leadership training in anti-oppression, and social justice witness through community organizing and advocacy.  This year, funds from the Special Offering has funded grant proposals that effected economic empowerment through job training and artist exposition in a congregational-sponsored community CafĂ©, as well as inter-generational dialogue, training and fellowship for Youth learning to lead new anti-oppression programs.

Reconciliation Ministry is a mission fund of the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ).  The ministry administers an annual granting program intended to seed projects within each expression of the Church seeking to undo systemic racism.  Because the receipts from the Special Offering are shared between the General and Regional expressions of the Church, General Reconciliation Ministry will consider proposals for projects sponsored by General, Regional, Higher Education and recognized ministries.  We strongly encourage grant proposals because your projects advance our mission through concrete measures.  Congregations may present grant proposals for anti-racism and anti-oppression projects to their Regional Office.

Many thanks for your generosity and willingness to resist racism and affirm human dignity.  Your giving is changing lives every day!
With a grateful heart,
Rev. April Johnson
Your Minister of Reconciliation

Gentle Yoga - In a chair or on a mat
November 7, 2017 - 7-8 p.m.
Fellowship Hall

This evening's gentle yoga is designed to help us connect with our spirit and even the sacred. Bonnie Schindler will be our teacher.

Bonnie's yoga journey began in 2005 when she was introduced to hatha yoga at a voice teacher's training program. After practicing regularly, she was stunned by how drastically yoga could influence one's mood, health and overall sense of well-being. She was inspired to deepen her learning and completed her 200 hour teaching certification in Curative Yoga in 2011. Bonnie believes that yoga can benefit everyone and that even a very short very gentle practice can clear the mind sooth the body and lift the spirit!

Bonnie lives with her wonderful husband and many beloved cats in Altadena and when she is not yogatating (her husband's term), she teaches voice from her home studio and performs in many southern California venues.

It may be practiced in a chair or on the floor. If you have a yoga mat, please bring it. There will be floor mats available for those who do not.
