An Inside Look at Exciting New Products, Market Trends & Availability
Stone Crab Crazy
The season for Stone Crab Claws is here. Crabbers off the Southwest coast of Florida are reporting decent catch.  The good news is the series of Hurricanes this season hasn't damaged the Stone Crab fishery.  Samuels is bringing in medium, large, jumbo and colossal sizes that are ready for you to crack open.

Back in Baccala!
It's time to get started early for holiday menus.  We have some beautiful Baccala made with Pacific Cod which is landed in Vancouver and Seattle! One of the reasons why we use Pacific Cod is due to the fact that the meat tends to be exceptionally white. Baccala is a traditional Mediterranean dish, especially within Italian tradition in which the Cod is salted and then stored for months. Long ago, the salting process was used to preserve the Cod while transporting it overseas, as well as a way to preserve the fish during times of famine. FUN FACT: the fight for Cod fishing grounds nearly started a war between Britain and Iceland after World War II (also known as "The Cod Wars"). All you need to do is hydrate the fish (or place it in water for 12-72 hours, depending on the size of the fillet or personal preference), and after that, it's delicious baked or part of a stew or salad, but the options with Baccala are virtually endless. It is tender, and it has a nice chew and a very unique flavor. Reach out to your Samuels sales rep for more information or to place an order! Now is the time to prepare for the holidays.

Boutique Fish From Around The World
Have a taste of the other side of the pond! We have beautiful fish from Italy, Greece, and France. They're all wild caught by villager fishermen on small trips and dayboats, and they're all very tasty. Check out the Musky Octopus from Greece - it gets its name because of its smooth skin and its musky smell. It's a bottom-dwelling species that is excellent tasting and great quality. We also have Greater Amberjack from Greece, and its pale pink flesh with firm, large flakes and sweet flavor make it super special. From France, we have Dover Sole and Red Mullet, which are both exceptional quality. Our Spiny Lobster from Italy is great! Spiny lobsters have a soft texture and a delicate flavor (and they're nice to look at too!). But that's not all - we have a full list of amazing fish from all over the world. Ask us about the many varieties we have. We're always happy to help you! Let your sales rep know you're interested by Friday's as these fish are completely pre order only.

Oh Snap
Hurricane Nate kept Florida Snapper boats tied up for over a week.  Once they made their way out, fishing was limited due to rough seas, high winds and even debris in the water from the hurricane.  This caused limited American Red Snapper availability.  Catch is beginning to improve as fishermen are getting back to their regular schedule and we expect our next shipment early this week.

What's Biting?
This week, sink your hooks into some Wild Striped Bass from Montauk Point, NY and the Maryland coast as well.  We have beautiful 8 lb and up fish and we'll be bringing in more as they migrate down the coast.  Fluke is an excellent choice as well.  We have Sushi Fluke from Rhode Island and Fluke caught off Virginia as well (season recently opened.)  Black Sea Bass prices are up a bit as Rhode Island recently closed and the quality fish from New Jersey are in high demand.  We anticipate the reopening of the Rhode Island season on November 1 st will improve availability.  While Squid availability is slowly improving, catch is coming in medium and small sizes right now.  Hopefully, cooling waters and migration will help improve catch soon.   Talk about cooling temperatures, we're beginning to see improved Spanish Mackerel quality as this time of year yields excellent quality Mackerel.  Do you love local fish?  If so, ask about our locally caught Bigeye Tuna from Hudson's Canyon and landed in New Jersey.  From the Emerald Basin off the coast of Nova Scotia, we're happy to be bringing in North Atlantic Swordfish into the fall months.

Finally!
We'll be bringing in the very first Mountain Rose Apple, watch out on our social media.
