Last February, I shared information about Bobs' Free Bikes, a local organization started by resident Bob Mandel and his partner, Bob Feghali. Bobs' is considering an opportunity to expand into a partnership with the Tempe Elementary School District but wants to be sure they meet the need of Fountain Hills' kids first. I appreciate that and thought it important to get information out to our community about this "no strings attached" opportunity for our kids and families.
BobsFreeBikes is a 501c3, non-profit foundation based in Fountain Hills. The mission of the foundation is simple: Collect bikes, repair them if necessary, and then give them to any child under age 18 that does not have one.
These bikes are not restored to their original condition but they are repaired so that they are in good working order.
If you would like to get a free bike for your child, here's a link to a PDF that you can download, print, and either email or mail back to Bobs':

If you aren't interested in getting a bike but are interested in volunteering or donating an unused bicycle, you'll find information on their webpage on how to do either or both. Please pass this message along to anyone else you know in Arizona who might like to have a free bike for their child.
It is no secret that I love bicycling and I'll end with a quote from Adam Hart-Davis, English scientist, author, photographer, historian and broadcaster:
"A bicycle is the finest mode of transport known to man."
