Lady Rams - SWYL Co-Champions!

Congratulations to our Lady Rams!  Last night they beat Stockdale to finish the season with a 9-1 league record making them the SWYL League Co-Champions!  We are so proud of them and all they have accomplished this season.  They will begin the "Road to Valley" next week.  Last year they won the D2 valley title and this year they have been moved up to D1. We may be a small school, but we are mighty.  Good luck Lady Rams.

Front row: Alia Lidgett, McKenzie Miller, Catherine Tobias, Priscilla Miranda, Haley Martin, & Claire Dobrzanski.  Back Row: Emily Demos, Molly Ming, Aly Dees, Sydney Camarillo, Emily Demler, Lailah Green, Perri Starkey and Maci Ryder.  The team is coached by Kim Harper, John Price and Sarah Slayton-Price.
Garces at Frontier Tonight

Tonight the Garces Rams play the Frontier Titans in one of the most important games of the season for the Rams.  Both teams are Division 2 for the valley playoffs and tonight's game will affect how both teams are seeded for the playoffs.  So please plan on being at Frontier tonight.  The Rams need the 12th man tonight to be loud and proud!

If you can't make the game, you can listen to it on The Garces Radio Network 98.1 FM OR 1230 AM or watch it live-streamed on the Kern High Network at kernhighnetwork.com.
Congratulations Mr. Bob Zeimet!

Congratulations to Mr. Bob Zeimet who was honored at the football game Friday night as the "Teacher of the Game".  The teacher is voted in by the students based on excellence in the classroom along with involvement with the school.

Mr. Zeimet has been teaching at Garces since 2004.  He teaches Physics 9 and Physics 12 Honors.  He is not only a teacher, he is a proud grandparent of several Garces alumni - Anna Paquette class of 2011, Mary Kate Paquette class of 2013, and Claire Paquette class of 2014. Bob is well-liked and well respected by the student body, staff, and faculty at Garces.

A fun fact about Bob is that he is a marathon runner.

Some of the quotes by the students who voted him in:

  • Mr. Zeimet is the smartest man on this campus and so easy to get along with.
  • He makes everyone laugh.  After a test, he will go onto the internet and look up jokes to share with our class.
  • He loves to use his own made-up words - like Bakers-patch and Tehacha-pie.
  • We all love him because he loves all of us.
Thank you Mr. Zeimet for all you do for Garces.  We hope you enjoy your Teacher of the Game shirt and wear it with pride.
Homecoming King & Queen
Jack Tobias & Gabi Arias

Congratulations to Jack Tobias and Gabi Arias who were voted in as our 2017 Homecoming King and Queen.
Congratulations Senior Class!

At the Homecoming Game Friday night, the classes battled it out to be the winner of the class dances and it was close!  Ultimately, the seniors prevailed and took first place.  The freshmen class took 2nd, juniors 3rd, and sophomores 4th.  All the classes did an outstanding job!  The backdrops were amazing and the dances were great.

LAMBS GROW TO BE RAMS

Garces had a boys' junior high school when it opened in 1947.  Fifteen years later, I was in its last graduating class in 1962.  The Christian Brothers taught us in the 50's wing and coached our sports teams.

We were known as the Lambs and competed in football, basketball, baseball and track.  The 1948 Lambs won the city football championship and beat SJM in the Jr. Holy Bowl, led by many future Ram greats.

When I played, our biggest rivals were the parish schools from OLPH, Guadalupe, St. Francis, St. Joseph and St. Lawrence.  Most of us eventually became teammates at Garces.

Just as back then, our junior high feeder schools are still the life-blood of the Garces Family today.  Garces will host the next generation of The Herd at our annual Ram for a Day festivities on Friday, November 3 from 9:00 AM-12:30 PM.  All eighth-graders and their parents are invited for a day of activities, including campus tours, class sit-ins, a rally and lunch.  Students will receive a commemorative T-shirt.  Drop-ins are welcome.  Contact Kim Harper at 327-2578 or [email protected] for more information.

Come to Garces and let your Lambs experience a day as a Ram.
Headed to Valley!

Julianna Escobedo, Grace Cornejo and Claire Cornejo

Congratulations to our Lady Rams who qualified at the CIF Central Section South Area Tournament on Monday for the Valley Championship Tournament!  Claire Cornejo finished 2nd, Grace finished 4th and Julianna finished 7th.  Good luck at the Valley Tournament on Monday Lady Rams!
Congratulations Emily Demos!

Congratulations to Emily Demos who was honored by the Bakersfield Jockey Club at a special luncheon on Monday.  Emily was honored as an Outstanding Student Athlete in Volleyball.  Congratulations Emily.  We are so proud of you.
Congratulations Meg Blaine!

Garces Senior Meg Blaine competed and won High Point Novice Youth in the Central Coast Paint Horse Spooktacular held October 19-22nd. Her horse also placed as 'Super Horse' for competition points earned.  Great job Meg.

Ram for a Day - Friday, November 3rd

We can't wait for Ram for a Day.  It is one of our favorite days on campus. All 8th graders who are thinking about coming to Garces for high school are invited. We have all kinds of activities planned for them.  If you know of an 8th grader who is thinking about Garces,  please let him, or her, know about Ram for a Day.  It is a great opportunity for all the 8th graders to see who their classmates will be and what it is like on campus as a Ram.  There is also a parent program for those parents who would like to stay on campus and get to know more about Garces. Please contact Kim Harper, Director of Admissions with any questions or to RSVP.
Teamwork Makes the Dream Work

Members of the Garces Softball Team shucked corn on Monday for the Food-a-Palooza. Nothing like team bonding over prepping corn to raise money for their team fundraising account.

The Lady Rams shucked 100 ears of corn in 15 minutes. Now that is some team work!

Message from
Ms. Kim Harper
Director of Admissions

Dear Garces Community,

As we prepare to welcome the Class of 2022 to our annual Ram for a Day I invite our Garces community to share with their friends and family; why Garces? Simply put, There is No Mistaking a Garces Student.

Garces Memorial High School. A signature emphasis on compassion, faith, and justice. Success at Garces is not defined by being the best in the world - it's about being the best for the world. That is why service is fundamental to the Garces experience. A Garces student benefits from the strong foundations in education, service, leadership and character development that only a Catholic school can provide. Here students learn that the highest purpose of an education is to serve others. They volunteer at school, in their community, and at their parish. They consider how the choices we make as a society affect the most vulnerable. Students leave Garces with an abiding compassion, a strong connection to their spiritual selves and a contagious enthusiasm for making the world a better place.

Garces Memorial High School. A culture that asks a student to step up. Our communities, corporations, and governments are crying out for innovative, ethical leaders with a global vision and an unshakable commitment to the common good. At Garces, we treat every student as an emerging leader. We cultivate leadership and character throughout our curriculum and extra-curricular activities. We give every student the opportunity to practice leadership in a variety of settings - the classroom, on the playing field, on stage, and in dozens of student-led clubs and activities. When students leave Garces, they are keenly aware of their role in defining the future, equipped with skills, confidence, and their faith leading the way.

Garces Memorial High School. Academic excellence above all. Garces students develop an intellectual life, a talent for critical thinking and passion for learning that sustains them through college and well beyond. All students receive individualized college counseling based on their skills, personality, and goals.

Friday, November 3rd is our annual Ram for a Day experience. We would like to invite all 8th graders and their parents to experience a day in the life of a Ram. The event beings at 9:00am and will wrap up at 12:30pm. Our visitors will visit classes, meet with Garces students and teachers, and experience what makes Garces such a special place. If you or someone you know is interested in learning more about Ram for a Day please ask them to contact the Director of Admissions Kim Harper immediately at 661-327-2578 or [email protected].

Halloween at Garces!

Question and Answers from a Catholic perspective according to Catholic Answers website:

The Church has no teaching on Halloween. The root of enjoying scary things is using our imagination to safely confront our fears. In and of itself there is nothing wrong with that. Where things can go awry is if it becomes a celebration or admiration of violence or evil.

That being said, students will have the opportunity to dress up Tuesday, October 31st  with the following rules in mind:
  • No yoga pants
  • No masks
  • No gore
  • No political references
  • Please keep Catholic decency in mind!!
The Garces Parent Club has planned a fun lunch-time activity and will award prizes for the best costumes for one girl and one boy in each grade level.  Please encourage your student to come dressed up and to enjoy the day.
Socktober at Garces

Garces is assisting Ford Dimension with their collection of socks for the homeless centers in Bakersfield.  We are asking students to donate new socks from now until November 12th.  Socks are to be turned in to home room teachers.  The home room who collects the most socks will win a pizza party.
Confession and Adoration on Campus

Through the end of the first semester,  we will have weekly Confession and Adoration in the chapel for our students.  Confession will be the day before Mass from 9:30 AM to 11:30 AM.  Adoration will be every Thursday from 11:30 AM to 2:00 PM in the chapel.

We are looking for parent volunteers to assist with Adoration.  If you are interested in helping, please contact Lou Ann Durrett or Michelle Pisano
