Moisturizing for the different skin types
Every skin type needs moisture, but each skin type has different needs as to how that moisture is applied to the skin. If the wrong type of moisture is applied, it will either be ineffective or cause more problems than there were before. In this article we will go over the main various skin types, along with the best way to give your skin the type of moisture it needs.
Oily/Acne Prone
This type has very strong needs for hydration, but without clogging or causing more acne. Most Oily/Acne prone, have stripped their skin with strong acids, exfoliatoin and stripping cleansers which has caused their skin to pump out alot of oil in order to compensate for the loss of lipids in the skin. This increased oil also causes clogging on the skin, and often acne as well. This type of skin does best with only hydrating serums, plus a touch of a light carrier oil if needed for lipid replenishment. They do best avoiding all of the products mentioned above in excess.. strong acids, exfoliation and stripping cleansers.
Some Great Topical Combinations -
Juniper Hydrosol Gel plus Prickly Pear Seed Oil
Encapsulated Glacier Water Gel plus Safflower Oil
or pair our Blemish Prone Treatment Serum with one of the above oils, Hemp Seed, Passion Fruit or Evening Primrose Oils.
Dehydrated/Acne Prone
This type also has very strong needs for hydration, but also really is in desperate need of lipid replenishment. Like Oily/Acne Prone skin, they have often stripped their skin with strong acids, exfoliation and stripping cleansers which has led them to have less lipids in their skin to hold onto the hydration in their skin. Dehydrated/Acne Prone skin often needs a combination of hydrating serums plus oils or a light butter. Like the Oily/Acne Prone Skin, they do best avoiding all of the products mentioned above in excess.. strong acids, exfoliation and stripping cleansers.
Some Great Topical Combinations -
Frankincense Hydrosol Gel plus Evening Primrose Oil
Envapsulated Glacier Water Gel plus Hemp Seed Oil
Blemish Prone Treatment Serum plus with one of the above oils, Hemp Seed, Passion Fruit Oil or Evening Primrose Oil
Rosacea/Oily (more rare)
Generally people with Rosacea also have Dehydrated Skin, and this is because alot of what causes Rosacea, also causes Dehydration. Rosacea/Oily Skin still needs hydration, and a touch of oil at times too. Rosacea is often caused from the same things as the above skin types, strong acids, exfoliation and stripping cleansers. In fact we do not suggest using any of these, while healing your skin from Rosacea.
Some Great Topical Combinations -
Banana Healing Serum plus Hemp Seed Oil
Oat Enriched Serum plus Evening Primrose Oil
Encapsulated Glacier Water Gel plus Passion Fruit Seed Oil
Rosacea/Dehydrated (sometimes Acne Prone)
This is the most common with Rosacea, and often can present with acne as well. Rosacea is often caused from the same things as the above skin types, strong acids, exfoliation and stripping Cleansers. In fact we do not suggest using any of these, while healing your skin from Rosacea. In fact we do not suggest using any of these, while healing your skin from Rosacea.
Some Great Topical Combinations -

If also acne prone.. you can use the SAME ones :)
Dry and or Dry/Aging
As long as this type of skin is not also Acne prone a cream, moisturizer or lotion is your best bet for holding moisture to your skin. Dry skin types should also avoid surfactant/soap type cleansers, excessive acids and excessive exfoliation. (this can only contribute)
Some Great Topical Combinations -
Spritz with Rose Hydrosol then apply McDreamy Cream
Spritz with Cherry or Blueberry Hydrating Mist then apply Renew Cream
w/Renovage
Spritz with Calendula Blossom Hydrating Mist then apply Classic Chamomile Cream
- If also acne prone, this becomes just a bit more complicated, as you cannot use a cream. In this case we suggest using a Hydrating Serum plus EAST Shea butter
- if also Aging (as long as not acne prone)
Spritz with Rose Hydrosol plus Age Defying Radiant Cream
Spritz with Frankincense Hydrosol plus Progeline Peptide Repair Cream
Spritz with Carrot Seed Hydrosol plus Fountain of Lycopene Cream
*when using oil, remember to only use 2-4 drops total (more for dry skin, less for oily skin) and mix it with your hydrator in the palm of your hand, then pat into skin.
