HOPE Is REAL!

A Note From Pastor Linda

Hope is being able to see that there is light despite all the darkness. ~Desmond Tutu

Now faith is the assurance of things hoped for, the conviction of things not seen. ~Hebrews 11.1

Dear Friends,

I woke up Monday morning early- per usual- and was out the door for a 6am meeting. By the time I hit 35E I flipped the radio on to news about a shooting in Las Vegas.  What? How? Why? Where in the WORLD is God? A feeling of hopelessness surrounded my head and my heart.

When bad things happen, where do you turn for support? Where do you find hope? What is hope? What does hope mean for people who follow Jesus? How does the Bible define hope?

Let's begin with what Biblical hope is not:
  • Hope is NOT- I hope my team wins the SuperBowl!
  • Hope is NOT- I hope I get a raise.
Biblical hope is not a hope-so... but rather a hope-know. It isn't wishing for the best. It isn't waiting to see what happens and hoping that it turns out well. Hope is not really a feeling or an emotion. Hope is the knowledge of facts- believing that Jesus Christ is the LIGHT of the WORLD (the whole world!)- and that this light shines in the darkness and the darkness (no matter how deep and dark it gets) CANNOT overcome the LIGHT. (John 1)

It is out of this knowledge- this heart knowledge- that we LIVE, LOVE and SERVE so that all will know Jesus. Here are two opportunities for you to bring HOPE:
  • During the months of October and November we will be collecting food for Rangers Supporting Rangers. Rangers Supporting Rangers (RSR) provides food support to district students and families with a financial need - bringing together a diverse group of individuals and organizations partnering to meet this need. RSR fills backpacks with food so that kids can have food security over the weekends and during school breaks. Here is how YOU can bring HOPE. Pick up quick and easy cook/eat items such as:cereal bars, individual cereals, pop tarts, individual oatmeal, cans of fruit and veggies, cans of soups, individual meal cups-then bring them to Hosanna! Items are being collected outside the Great Hall doors. Let see this GROW!!
  • Save the date- November 12 at 4pm: Woodbury Chorus and Orchestra Concert here at Hosanna benefitting our local food shelves. A free will offering will be taken with all proceeds going to feed people in our area.

PEACE OUT!
 ~Pastor Linda

Senior Adult Ministries (SAM) Lunch
Thursday, October 5 at 11:30am

SAM is meeting on Thursday, October 5 for their monthly Lunch! They will be meeting at Sal's Angus Grill in Withrow, Minnesota. If you can make it, please contact Lynda Olson at 651-982-0856.

Below is a note from Lynda about SAM's Christmas Plans:

I wanted to let you know that we have plans for our Christmas lunch!  Betty Corum suggested an outing to the Plymouth Theater to see "Loony Lutherans".  I thought it was a great idea, so I gave the theater a call and they told me that they still have a bloc of 22 seats that could accommodate our group, so I made reservations!  The show begins at 1:00 so we will need to meet for lunch at 11:30 at the Green Mill, which is part of the Plymouth Theater building.  Since it is Christmas, we will have a choice for lunch.  Folks can either order off the menu or partake in the Christmas  buffet.  The buffet will be a scrumptious Christmas dinner of turkey and all the fixings, for $15.00.  A pretty good deal!  The cost for the tickets for the Plymouth Theater live show is $23 each person.
We hope you will be able to join us!

General Renovation Volunteers Needed
Informational Meeting: Thursday, October 12, 2017

We would like to invite you to learn more about being a General Renovation Volunteer on Thursday, October 12 from 7-8:30pm in the lower level of St. Genevieve Church.

Volunteers can commit to a one-time volunteer opportunity or sign-up for as many shifts as your schedule allows. We will share the renovation schedule as well as sign-up information at this meeting. Representatives from FLAMF (Forest Lake Area Mission for Families), the St. Andrew's Community Resource Center, and St. Gen's will be there to present the volunteer opportunities and answer any questions you may have.

General renovation volunteers do not need to have construction experience and must be willing to get a little dirty ;-)  We will train and equip you with the necessary tools to complete your supervised task.

We hope you will consider putting your faith into action by participating as a General Renovation Volunteer -- your time and talents will give help and hope to our neighbors who are in need of emergency shelter.

If you have questions please feel free to contact Liz Schreier, St. Andrew's Lutheran Church at lschreier@saintandrews.org.

A special thank you to the efforts of many members in our community and this congregation who have worked diligently and faithfully to make this a reality. Please plan to be a part of our volunteer opportunities as together we answer God's call to love one another.

Chapter 3 Retreat
November 18, 2017

Perhaps you've finished building your career... Maybe you've recently retired or just beginning to think about it... Or the children you've raised have left or are beginning to leave the nest. Each of these scenarios, and many more, represents a transitional and potentially transformational period in life, the turning of a page, the beginning of a NEW chapter in life- the 3
rd Chapter. It is a time that you might find yourself asking, "What's next?". This period offers both opportunity and challenges. It is a time to renew and refocus.
Join others as we explore what this time means in God's time.
