We have had an incredibly busy month here at the BABC; here is a recap of our recent activities.
On Saturday September 9th, there was the long awaited Clash for the Ashes Tournament in beautiful sunny Larkspur.
More than 150 cricket fans gathered in Piper Park to watch the cricketing drama between Bay Area Aussies and Englishmen. We thank everyone for coming along to make this a most fun, festive, relaxing and enjoyable day.
Thanks also to Andrew Whittaker, H. M. Consul General to San Francisco and Australia's Consul General Chris Oldfield for joining us and being part of our special day, as well as Australian cricketing legend Adam Gilchrist! Finally, a huge thanks to Fairmont San Francisco, Qantas, 2020 Productions, and Dunkirk Spirit Gin as well as all of our donors and volunteers who helped make the day very special for all involved.
On Tuesday, September 12th we hosted our increasingly popular Young Professionals Happy Hour in Cafe Americano at Hotel Vitale. The YP Committee were delighted to welcome more than 30 new and returning attendees to this quarterly networking event. This month's guests represented a variety of industries including tech, real estate, law, interior design, education, as well as representatives from Rugby related organizations from all over the globe.
At my own firm, Squire Patton Boggs, we held our event "Autonomous Vehicle Technology: Future Patent War Battleground?". Experts from various sectors of the CAV industry discussed who are the early leaders in CAV technology patents and patent applications, how businesses are assessing whether to license technology in or out from others who are, or who may become, competitors, and will the absence of broad adoption of standards impact the usefulness of CAV technology. Thanks to the panelists as well as all those who attended.

Women influencing the Built Environment
" event at the Herman Miller Showroom on Oct 12th. The event brings together an esteemed panel of women who have all achieved a phenomenal level of success in various different areas of the commercial real estate world.
There is also the second Young professional's workshop titled "Leadership & Management Fundamentals - WINNING! - Strategies for Effective Career Management". Here attendees will learn the skills to proactively manage both their career and their staff, allowing them to walk away confident in their leadership and management abilities.

It's been a busy month at the Consulate. From our visits from our Minister on Climate and Industry to learn about energy storage to the Parliamentary Under Secretary of State for the Department of Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy to attend the Med Tech Conference in San Jose, to many missions of which I'm sure you many of you were a part of in one way or another, I'm glad to finally take a seat and wrap up a few reflections of these events.
We are truly in a revolutionary time. I know a lot of the work everyone within the BABC community is helping contribute to this too.
Last week, for instance, we had 6 UK-based companies attend and demo their work in the artificial intelligence space at the AI Summit - some truly incredible work.
It's a space government finds extremely important to our future. That's why as part of the UK's five year Digital Strategy, we're doing a large scale AI review in order to identify the critical elements required for the technology to thrive and grow on the UK.
What's more, the Government has also announced an additional $23.25 million funding boost from one of the UK's Research Councils-the Engineering and Physical Sciences Research Council-for UK Universities to support the development of new AI technologies.
And this is just the beginning. The UK AI market is forecast to grow significantly in the next ten years-roughly $873 billion by 2025. This will no doubt attract international companies and capital to invest in innovative new start-ups and to expand their business operations from the UK.
I personally, am very much looking forward to what's to come. I'm sure we cannot even begin to fathom the way these technologies and innovators will drive us into the future.
