Welcome to Christ Lutheran e-news, a weekly electronic newsletter which highlights programs and activities of our congregation. Feel free to .

SeptemberFest is this Sunday! If you've been in worship all summer, you know what great music we have enjoyed throughout the warmer months. This week, we once again worship to the tunes of the Appalachian liturgy, Of the Land and Seasons, and we'll gather on the lawn, weather permitting. (Please bring seating, if you're able.) Sunday school and adult forum also resume at 9:00, and a new post-confirmation discussion with Nate Pearson begins in the youth room.  Following worship, we'll feast on a fabulous brunch prepared by Edie Lohr. Parents: please register your children for Sunday school! Forms available on the CLC website: www.christnatick.org.

CLC made its 4th appearance at Natick Days last Saturday. Mary Avalos, Phil Roberts, Dorothy Nail and Celeste Larson staffed our booth, which showcased our Amazing Natick grant, a $1000 annual award to a person or group with an innovative idea to make Natick even more amazing. Past grantees have painted electrical boxes on the Common, and produced teen comic books on dating violence, depression, and the opioid crisis. With a fun carnival game, the booth also raised about $400 for hurricane relief. (photo credit: Rolf Larson)

Music Notes
Tom Berryman, Music Director
The CLC Choir resumes rehearsals this week on Thursday, September 14 at 7:45 pm.  We welcome folks who love to sing to join this dynamic, committed, hard working and accomplished group.  We sing an impressive range of musical styles and levels of difficulty.  The Choir sings almost every Sunday mid-September through early June.  There is no audition required for membership in the CLC Choir.  Some singing experience is helpful.

We also invite occasional singers to join us for special events.  This Fall, composer and song leader, Alice Parker will rehearse and lead the Choir and congregation on Sunday, October 22.  On November 12, we will be singing for the CLC annual Evening Prayer service, featuring J.S. Bach ' s " Wachet Auf. Join us for the late service on Christmas Eve for beautiful traditional Scandinavian, German and American music.

Optional vocal training precedes our Thursday rehearsals at 7:30 pm.  These sessions will begin on Thursday, September 21.

Youth News
Nate Pearson, Youth Director
Hello Church! Patricia Bianco and I accompanied Alexandra White, Isaac and Fiona Ripp to Calumet for a New England-wide gathering of ELCA youth! We had an amazing time. There was worship, music, inspiring speakers, and time spent in the glorious white mountains! The pictures below show our youth playing beach volleyball, the popular activity during downtime. Thanks to Patricia Bianco for donating her time and talent to the weekend! See you at church!

Adult Formation
Adult Forum begins this Sunday at 9:00 in the Memorial room:  We'll spend the first four Sundays studying "Declaration on the Way: Church, Ministry and Eucharist" - a unique ecumenical document that makes visible a pathway to Christian unity between Catholics and Lutherans. Join us!

Wellesley College's Davis Museum (pictured) commemorates the 500th anniversary of the Martin Luther's posting of the 95 Theses, sparking the Reformation, with Martin Luther: Protest in Print, a selection of 16th century prints and books. The exhibit runs from September 19 - December 17.
Martin Luther: The Idea that Changed the World premieres on PBS tonight at 8:00. If you have a chance to watch it, let Russell Pollard or Pastor Bourret know what you think. If you don't get a chance to see it, but would like to, let us know. We're thinking of showing it for CLC at the Movies in October. Here's a brief trailer: http://www.pbs.org/video/official-trailer-lucvet/
CLC group is reading James Baldwin, The Fire Next Time for Oct. 16.

Natick Community Farm book group meets tomorrow evening in the Memorial Room at 7:30 to discuss Naomi Klein's book, No is Not Enough.

Call to Action
Be sure to schedule an appointment to have your picture taken for the new directory. Although the photos will be taken by member Rolf Larson, rather than a commercial photographer, you may opt to purchase a portrait at a reasonable cost, if you wish.
Pictorial Directory Photo Sessions
Begin September 23

Sign ups continue this Sunday in the Narthex before church and the Fellowship Hall during coffee hour. We will be scheduling photo sessions through October 15 at this time.

Photo sessions will occur at church in the Christmas Room adjacent to the nursery and will be approximately 20 minutes long. The first sessions will be on Saturday, September 23, from 9 am until noon. When you sign up, you will be given helpful tips on what to wear.

Photo sessions after September 23 will be typically scheduled on Saturdays, either in the morning or afternoon, Sunday after church and on select Monday  or Wednesday evenings.

Our goal is 100% participation.  Our directory won't be
complete without you!
There's so much happening at CLC this fall! Look over The Reporter, and choose which events and special worship services you'd like to invite friends--that includes kids, too!--to attend.
Giving opportunities: Our congregation will dedicate a beech tree on October 29 to celebrate the 500th anniversary of the Reformation Members are invited to contribute to the cost of the tree, surrounding plantings, and granite marker (total about $2100, about half of which has already been contributed)

Donations to Lutheran Disaster Response for hurricane relief are welcome! You may donate through CLC, directly to LDR, or, if you're a member, through Thrivent, in which case they'll match your gift up to $3 million.
Attendees of the recent dinner for friends from the Lutheran Church in Honduras learned of a drive to raise money for young people to attend university, both opening doors to a more promising future, and escaping the extreme violence that pervades the country. For only $1200, we can provide a student the resources to go to the university for one year.  We hope to raise $6000 by September 30 for five such scholarships.  We have a $3000 matching grant, dollar for dollar.  Make checks payable to "New England Synod" and mail them to Pastor David Rinas, 12 Shirley St., Pepperell, MA  01463.
Looking Ahead

The Islamic Center of Boston is hosting another book discussion on October 15, from 3-5. Get your copy of Getting to the Heart of Interfaith and start reading!
On Sunday, September 17th, we celebrate the Fifteent h Sunday after Pentecost/SeptemberFest . 9:00 a.m. Sunday School, Adult Forum, 10:00 a.m. Worship, Pastor Bourret preaching and presiding.
READINGS FOR THIS WEEK
September 17, 2017, Fifteenth Sunday after Pentecost

The gospel this coming Sunday is a harsh parable about forgiveness. Yet even if we feel condemned by this reading, we receive God's mercy at the table of the Lord. Come to worship, to be forgiven, and to be empowered to forgive others.

First Reading          Psalm                             Second Reading       Gospel
Genesis 50:15-21       Psalm 103:[1-7] 8-13        Romans 14:1-12           Matthew 18:21-35
Sing For Joy
Enhance your understanding of the weekly scripture readings by listening to Sing For Joy http://www.stolaf.edu/singforjoy/ from St. Olaf College.  The Sing For Joy radio program, produced by St. Olaf College , has a simple mission: to explore the weekly themes of Christian worship by providing the best in sacred choral music and thoughtful commentary. The musical performances eloquently "do the talking," while the concise remarks from host Pastor Bruce Benson illuminate the meaning of the texts.
