- WFB Library Tea Time Book Club 12:00-1:00pm. Lilac Girls by Martha Hall Kelly Caroline Ferriday, a socialite in New York, has her hands full with her post at the French consulate, but on the eve of a fateful war, her world is changed forever when Hitler's army invades Poland in September, 1939; and then sets its sights on France. Halloween Happenings in Whitefish Bay 2017

Village Hall and Police Department operations will be shared with DPW at their location at 155 W Fairmount Ave at Lydell until Fall 2018. Free parking, wheelchair accessible.
Leaf Pickup Information: Curbside pickup began Mon., Oct. 16.
Pavement Mill and Overlay Project Upcoming
Several streets in the Village are included in this year's annual pavement mill and overlay project. This work will consist of pavement grinding, spot curb and gutter and base pavement repairs, and then resurfacing with asphalt. The work is expected to be completed in October. The adjacent residents have been previously notified. Please drive carefully around all construction zones.
Cramer Street Storm Sewer Improvement Project (Glendale Avenue to Wilshire Road)
To address surface flooding due to heavy rain events, the Village is proceeding on this project to add additional storm sewer system capacity. Some needed sanitary and water utility work is taking place as well, along with the replacement of lead water services. This project is expected to be completed in early November.
Chipping of Woody Material: Acceptable woody chipping materials are tree branches and large woody shrubs that are to be placed on the parkway. This service continues in an every other week rotation.

Holiday Pickup Day Changes:

Trash & Recycling Collection Project: Website Information located HERE. Status Update as of September 12, 2017: The Village Board voted to authorize the implementation of a Village provided cart program to be placed near the curb or alley edge by the resident utilizing the automated collection process effective May 7, 2018 and directed village staff to develop an implementation plan that includes an exception process and to set the implementation date for the recycling program changes as of May 7, 2018.

Whitefish Bay Utility Billing
Change to Quarterly from Tri-Annual Billing
As you may have noticed for the last few months on your water utility statement, the Whitefish Bay Water Utility will be switching from a rolling tri-annual billing schedule to a quarterly billing schedule beginning in 2018. All water utility customers will be on the sam
e quarterly billing cycle and will have the same bill date and due date.
January 1, 2018
On January 1, 2018, every utility customer in the Village will receive a pro-rate

b
ill for the period which will end on December 1, 2017. This water bill will arrive by January 1 and be due by January 20, 2018. Please refer to the linked map to identify your proration schedule for the billing period which ends on December 1. This will affect your January 1 bill only. After this first bill of 2018, the subsequent billing for all Whitefish Bay customers will be quarterly. The next bill will be in April.
Cost-Savings for Customers
The transition to quarterly billing will provide efficiency and cost savings to Village customers. Shorter billing periods (three months instead of four) will allow the Village to catch leaks faster and reduce unintended use by customers. Customers will also see lower bills based on the shorter billing periods, making it easier for budgeting.

DRUG TAKE BACK DAY Saturday, October 28, 2017, from 1
0:00 am to 4:00 pm, we will have a special drug take back day at the DPW. Please enter from Lydell.
The Village of Whitefish Bay, in cooperation with the Wisconsin Department of Justice (DOJ) and the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA), will participate in National Prescription Drug Take Back Day on Saturday, October 28 at the Department of Public Works parking lot, 155 W. Fairmount Ave., Whitefish Bay, WI 53217.
This effort will continue to bring focus to the issue of prescription painkiller abuse in Wisconsin. Drug Take Back Day provides a safe, convenient, and responsible means of disposal, while also educating the community about the potential abuse and consequences of improper storage and disposal of these medications.
"More than two thirds of people who have abused prescription painkillers got them illegally from a friend
or family member," said Wisconsin Attorney General Brad Schimel. "Wisconsinites can help cut down on prescription drug abuse by storing prescription drugs securely and disposing of unused medication through proper methods, like DOJ's biannual Drug Take Back Day."
Unused or expired medicine should never be flushed or poured down the drain. Water reclamation facilities are not designed to remove all of them and trace amounts of pharmaceuticals are showing up in rivers and lakes.
Drug GUIDELINES:
All waste pharmaceuticals must be generated by a household
- no businesses are allowed.
Bring
:
Prescription (controlled and non-controlled) and over-the-counter medications, ointments, patches, inhalers, non-aerosol sprays, creams, vials and pet medications.
Do Not Bring
:
Illegal drugs, needles/sharps, acids, aerosol cans, bio-hazardous materials (anything containing a bodily fluid or blood), personal care products (shampoo, soaps, lotions, sunscreens), household hazardous waste (paint, pesticides, oil, gas), mercury thermometers.
- Participants may dispose of solid, non-liquid medication(s) by removing the medication from its container and disposing of it directly into a disposal box or into a clear sealable plastic bag. Plastic pill containers should not be collected. Blister packages without the medications being removed are acceptable.
- Liquids will be accepted during this initiative. However, the liquids, creams and sprays must be in their original packaging. Liquids without the original packaging will not be accepted.
- Illicit substances such as marijuana or methamphetamine are not a part of this initiative and should not be placed in collection containers.
The next drug take back day will be scheduled sometime in the spring of 2018.

me prevention and safe communities require the participation of everybody; it's not a spectator sport. Eight of our nine car thefts this year had the keys used to drive it away. Don't let the overall safety of our community lull you into complacency. Many communities in the Milwaukee metro area are experiencing entry to unlocked automobiles and the theft of cars using the car's keys. Videos in other communities have shown a car pull onto a quiet street and 5 or 6 kids get out and start pulling on car doors. If the door is locked the thief moves onto the next car. This crime prevention is so easy, lock your cars up, take your keys with you and keep your garage and house locked.
These are property crimes and the owner is out of use and possession of their property. Sometimes stolen cars are more than property crimes. They may be used in a violent crime. One of our more recent stolen cars has been pursued several times by officers in nearby communities as the car is being used in other thefts and crimes. The people who are stealing these cars frequently are the type of drivers who drive recklessly, at high speeds and drive through red lights and hurt and kill innocent people driving through the intersections. For the safety of others we really need you to keep your keys with you and we need you to keep your cars locked. Please share this advice with your friends and neighbors.
UPDATE:
This past weekend, WFB squads responded to a suspicious vehicle complaint in the SE part of the Village. Checking where the vehicle had been, the officers went out on foot and looked into cars to see if there were any entries. Officers checked over 50 vehicles and ALL VEHICLES WERE LOCKED. Thank you for helping the police and keep up the good work.

October is Domestic Violence Awareness Month. Intimate partner violence is a serious preventable public health problem that affects millions of Americans and occurs across the lifespan. Intimate partner violence includes physical violence, sexual violence, threats of physical or sexual violence, stalking, and emotional or psychological abuse by a current or former intimate partner. This type of violence can occur among heterosexual or same-sex couples. It exists along a continuum from a single episode of violence to severe episodes over a period of years. One in four women and one in nine men in the United States have experienced contact sexual violence, physical violence, or stalking by an intimate partner, and reported that the violence in that relationship impacted them in some way. Unfortunately, half of domestic violence cases go unreported usually due to fear of retaliation from the abuser. The goal is to stop intimate partner violence before it begins.
You can help stop domestic violence by taking these steps:
- Call the police if you see or hear evidence of domestic violence.
- Speak out publicly against domestic violence.
- Maintain a healthy, respectful romantic relationship as a model for your children and others.
- Refer your neighbor, co-worker, friend, or family member to a domestic violence outreach organization if you suspect abuse.
- Educate others on domestic violence
