MAES INTERN TOURNAMENT
Part of the SHPE National Conference this year, the MAES Intern Tournament is a competition emphasizing the value of participation in pre-professional experiences like internships, study abroad, and research experiences. The competition, organized as a student-driven lecture series, brings together recent interns to present on their pre-professional experience and serve as mentors to other students seeking advice on how to prepare and be selected for similar experiences. The peer-to-peer format of the Intern Tournament also lends to the credibility of the message that pre-professional experiences, when combined with the traditional college education, can dramatically enhance an individual’s success in a STEM career.

REGISTER NOW for the conference and be the first to know when applications are being accepted for the Tournament.
CONGRATULATIONS, STAR AWARD WINNERS!
The annual STAR Awards recognize and honor the contributions of SHPE members and Hispanic organizations to the STEM fields. The 2017 winners were selected from over 130 nominations including professionals, corporations, and students. The award winners will be honored and presented with awards at the STAR Awards Gala on Saturday evening at the National Conference. DEAN'S ROUNDTABLE
The goal of the Deans’ Roundtable 2017 is to collectively discuss national strategies for recruitment and retention of Hispanics in academia, give networking opportunities to deans and academic leaders from across the nation, and provide a platform for deans to showcase the work on diversity at their institution.

Elevating and advancing the momentum from last year’s dialogue, this year's forum of invited deans and academic leaders will deliberate on the following key topics: results from the 2017 National Deans’ Survey, diversity practices at various institutions, and opportunities to strengthen ties between SHPE and academia. Your input is extremely valuable to SHPE, so we strongly urge you to join us for this worthwhile event.
Additional questions about the Deans’ Roundtable also can be directed to Dr. Dora Renaud at dorar@shpe.org or Christian Alcaraz at Christian.Alcaraz@shpe.org.
