Dynamic Psychotherapy Process Group
Our first group therapy session will be held on Saturday, October 7, 2017 (1:15 to 2:30 PM) at
The Water Garden Business Center, 23421 South Pointe Drive, Suite 130, Laguna Hills, CA, 92653.
Group members who have completed the pre-group screening process and will begin the group on October 7 have already been contacted.
Group members are being considered for a second process group that will begin at some point in the next several months. If you are interested in exploring the possibility of joining this psychotherapy process group, please contact me directly to schedule a consultation interview.
The Relationship Group:
The Problem with Being Nice: Covert Contracts in Romantic Love
Being nice is often an unconscious covert attempt on the part of both men and women to ingratiate themselves to their partner. But the covert contract that often emerges in relational dynamics when one partner is primed to be kind, embody the role of caretaker, and self-sacrifice for the needs and wants of the other can be quite counter-productive.
In the next meeting of the Relationship Group on Saturday, October 7, 2017 (11:45 AM to 1:00 PM),
we will explore how covert contracts operate in relationships. While this topic is usually approached through the lens of codependent and narcissistic patterns, I will emphasize the more primitive conflict that impacts all relationships: championing one's own needs vs. sacrificing/compromising for the needs of others. How to communicate one's feelings about this conflict rather than just focusing on boundary-setting will be considered.

People relate to each other through the stories they tell. Some stories are honest, forthcoming, and candid, while others are highly self-inflated, geared primarily toward achieving a positive impact and favorable view. What are the stories you have formulated about yourself, and to what end do you use the stories you tell?

The Men's Group on Saturday, October 7, 2017 (10:15 to 11:30 AM), we will explore the origin of our personal narratives and the degree to which we use them to promote a personal propaganda we may, or may not, be aware of. A central concept we will consider is the unanticipated interpersonal dynamics our stories promote and the rigid self-concept they often maintain.
