Dear Parish Pro-Life Coordinators,
Greetings and blessings in this Respect Life Month!
By now your pastor should have received the
USCCB Respect Life Program
packet for your parish. If you haven't already, I encourage you to make an appointment with your pastor to walk through the packet and determine what resources would best suit your parish. USCCB resources for Respect Life Month may also be found
online here
and linked at the left sidebar.
This month includes a multitude of opportunities for your parish community to witness to the 2017 Respect Life theme "
Be Not Afraid."
The first such opportunity is the
Fall 40 Days for Life campaign
that started on Wednesday. (Click here to view the video premiered at the Kickoff Rally.)
Dallas' 24/7 vigil outside the
Southwestern abortion facility
is a perfect place to witness as a parish family! Thank you to all who have adopted a time of prayer during the campaign. If your church has not yet adopted a time of prayer, we are in
critical need of your help
. The following days remain uncovered:
Oct. 11, 18, 23, 24, 25, and Nov. 1 and 2.
To sign up your parish, please contact 214-392-7545 or
40days@prolifedallas.org
. Promotional and instructional items for your parish participation are
available here
.
FOR THE FIRST TIME THIS YEAR, on Saturday,
Oct. 7,
the Dallas Diocese will mark Respect Life Month with a
Respect Life Mass
celebrated by Bishop Edward Burns at 5:30 p.m. at St. Rita Catholic Church in Dallas. A Consecration to Our Lady will take place before Mass at 5 p.m. in the Sanctuary.
All Respect Life staff and volunteers (that includes you!), as well as anyone else in attendance at the Mass, who has completed the prayerful preparation (available here
), are invited to participate in the Consecration. A reception with pro-life exhibits will follow in the Pavilion (plus we will celebrate Bishop Burns's birthday!).
Please share this wonderful opportunity with your fellow parishioners, family, and friends!
Below are some additional opportunities to mark Respect Life Month:
And be sure to mark your calendar for the Nov. 4 Pasos por la Vida, 4th annual Eucharistic Procession for Life!
Finally, please mark your calendars for the next Parish Pro-Life Coordinators Meeting, Nov. 11, at Prince of Peace Catholic Church in Plano. (Please note the location change.) If you can't attend, please send a representative to receive important information, including promotional materials for the 2018 Roe Memorial Events.
As we approach October, we are reminded of the beautiful gift of the Rosary. On October 7, we celebrate the Feast of Our Lady of the Rosary. The development of the rosary has a long history. First, a practice developed of praying 150 Our Fathers in imitation of the 150 Psalms. Then there was a parallel practice of praying 150 Hail Marys. Soon a mystery of Jesus' life was attached to each Hail Mary. Although Mary giving the rosary to St. Dominic is recognized as a legend, the constant repetition of words helps to create an atmosphere in which to contemplate the mysteries of God. We sense that Jesus and Mary are with us in the joys and sorrows of life. We grow in hope that God will bring us to share in the glory of Jesus and Mary forever.
Thanks for all you do for life, and God bless!
