Reading Buddies with the Erie Playhouse

Join United Way's Reading Buddies and the Erie Playhouse for three special performances for kids and Reading Buddies training for parents.

On November 11, the Youtheatre will be doing a short performance of Jack and the Beanstalk at United Way - please note the new location. With a splendid spin on this classic tale, Jack meets up with a scientific giant, a plucky Golden Harp and a tap-dancing Golden Goose. Wackiness ensues as Jack tries to escape the magical kingdom!

On January 20, the Youtheatre will be doing a short performance of Petite Rouge at United Way - please note the new location. Based on the classic fairy tale Little Red Riding Hood, a red-hooded duckling named Petite Rouge and her sidekick cat lead the Big Bad Gator on a wild "duck" chase through New Orleans and Mardi Gras.

On May 12, the Youtheatre will be doing a short performance of Junie B. Jones. Sneak a peek into the "Top-Secret Personal Beeswax Journal" of the outspoken and lovable Junie B. Jones! Join this sassy diva as she navigates 1st grade and finds one adventure after another. The location for this event is TBD.

Registration begins at 10:30am and Reading Buddies training starts at 11:00am. Reservation information to come. For more information, go to www.unitedwayerie.org/readingbuddies

Children learn by example. Trade your smart phone or tablet for a book to show your children that reading is fun.

Have family reading nights at dinner to make reading a special event. By making books a part of your routine, you can instill a love for reading in your children at a young age. For more tips on how to encourage children to read, check out  this article
