OPTCL Completes Two Projects in India
With the support of APAR Industries Ltd and CTC Global, Orissa Power Transmission Corporation Ltd (OPTCL), completed the installation of over 100 kilometers of 273.6 mm^2 (540 kcmil) Casablanca size ACCC conductor on their single circuit 132 KV Chandaka-Ranasinghpur line and their double circuit 132KV Chandaka-Mancheswar line, both of which are located in Bhubaneswar, Orissa, India.
OPTCL, a state owned power transmission utility in eastern India, selected ACCC Casablanca to replace ACSR Panther size conductor to increase capacity on two existing 132 kV transmission lines while maintaining low losses and safe ground clearances. Challenges faced during the project's installation included working through highly populated areas which included hospitals, colleges and other commercial and residential areas, as well as an elephant reserve forest which required very long continuous pulls. ACCC was also selected for its toughness and durability because of Bhubaneswar's high degree of susceptibility to high winds, cyclones and monsoons due to the area's low elevation above sea level and proximity to the eastern coastal plains. While the pace of the installation was hindered to some degree by sporadic outages due to high demand conditions and weather constraints, the project was successfully completed with a very dedicated and thorough workforce.
While the combined project was OPTCL's first ACCC installation, it represents the largest deployment of ACCC conductor in India to date and India's 10th (and 11th) successful ACCC installations, with several others in the works. Stay tuned for further updates.

Real Power vs Reactive Power
Sometimes its good to get back to basics. For a great review of real power vs reactive power; the effect of reactive power on system voltages; resistance, inductance, capacitance and other related subject matter please download a free copy of "Conductor Performance" a white paper published by Power Engineers for CTC Global. You will be asked to provide your contact information so we can alert you to any updates, but once you're logged in you can download any other documents you might find interesting without being asked again. It a very informative paper and is especially interesting as it compares and contrasts the differences and similarities of several conductor types.

Free Design Software
CTC Global created CCP to help system planners and engineers compare the ampacity, line losses, thermal and ice load sag, and economic aspects of nearly any conductor type and size, so the numerous advantages of the ACCC® conductor can be fully realized. The user simply selects the conductor types and sizes from drop down menus and enters the appropriate values & assumptions highlighted in the yellow boxes. The program is fully functional and uses standard industry formulas (such as IEEE 738-2006). Outputs are readily comparable to Sag10®, PLS CADD™ and other similar programs.

Why Over 100 International Utilities Have Selected ACCC
- High Capacity
- Low Sag
- High Strength
- Fatigue Resistant
- Corrosion Resistant
- Excellent Self Damping
- Easy to Install
- Great for Long Spans
- Very Tough
- Extensively Proven
- Excellent for N-1 Conditions
- Lower Line Losses
The ACCC Conductor's added aluminum content (without a weight or diameter penalty) allows it to run cooler under any load condition which translates into reduced line losses. Reduced line losses can save fuel, emissions and generation capacity. The Bottom Line: In more than 300 cases, the ACCC conductor has provided more than 100 utilities the best economic solution for their specific project needs.
