WACA - United States Institute of Peace Program
The World Affairs Councils of America is pleased to announce a partnership with the United States Institute of Peace (USIP) to engage American communities in discussions on peacebuilding abroad as a practical way to strengthen U.S. security. While violence worldwide fuels extremism and uproots millions, national and local peace agreements from Colombia to Iraq show how even bitter conflicts can be ended nonviolently.
This fall, three Councils will host top USIP experts for a series of activities in Nashville, Naples, and Kansas City. In the inaugural event, USIP President Nancy Lindborg will join the Tennessee World Affairs Council for a public, town hall-style forum at Belmont University, as well as other discussions at the Nashville Rotary Club and at local high schools.
"We can think of no better partner than the World Affairs Councils of America to connect global policy experts with Americans who are deeply interested in the critical global issues of our times," said Lindborg.
This is not the first collaboration between WACA and USIP. Each year, Academic WorldQuest includes a peace and conflict section by USIP, and the WACA 2017 National Conference will feature Nancy Lindborg in conversation with two leading U.S. Senators.

Additionally, Naples has been chosen as one of the three Councils to participate in the WACA-USIP Engage America speaker program this October 30.
THURSDAY: Cover to Cover Author Series

Meghan L. O'Sullivan , Harvard professor and former Deputy National Security Advisor for President George W. Bush, posits that significant changes in America's energy sector over the last decade - the shift from scarcity to abundance of oil and gas, environmental concerns, technology, innovation and ingenuity within the industry - are transforming politics and foreign policy to the advantage of the United States. Her new book, Windfall: How the New Energy Abundance Upends Global Politics and Strengthens America's Power, calls on policymakers, government leaders, and elected officials to embrace the new energy reality that has more upsides than downsides for America's economy and its position in the world.

Register for the call

Read O'Sullivan's  recent article on the geopolitics of energy in  Bloomberg View, and join us for  October's Cover to Cover  Thursday, October 5, at 2:00-2:30 PM ET.
