Development Updates
Downtown Superior Construction Update

Progress continues on the Downtown Superior project. The Main Street connection between the roundabout at McCaslin Boulevard and Sport Stable at Superior is scheduled to be open for traffic later this month. As a primary entrance and focal point of the new Downtown Superior neighborhood, Main Street is constructed with an innovative permeable paver system that stores and filters rainwater – which allowed curb and gutter to be eliminated through a portion of this core area. For festivals and events there in the future, Main Street will become a pedestrian-friendly extension of the plaza area that will be sited across from Sport Stable.

Following the extensive site work to install utilities and infrastructure throughout the Downtown Superior area, residential construction started and the initial phases of these new homes are nearing completion. With significant demand, all of the more than 250 available lots are currently under contract for development, and 117 homes have been approved to date.

Along Highway 36, next to Impact Sports/Sport Stable, a 4-story, 62,000 square-foot medical office building is currently under construction, along with a parking garage with approximately 240 parking spaces.

On the north side of Coal Creek, Marshall Road has been extended and the 4-story 79,000 square-foot Element Hotel by Westin is under construction across from the Superior Plaza building.
Along the southern edge of the Downtown Superior area, this summer’s landscaping and trail installation project is wrapping up. This tract of more than 12 acres establishes a continuous natural area corridor from McCaslin Boulevard to Highway 36.

In order to facilitate future transportation needs, an additional improvement was recently completed to install a continuous third northbound lane on McCaslin from the Main Street roundabout through the Marshall Road intersection to the Highway 36 eastbound onramp.

New and ongoing businesses and programs are available to the community at Sport Stable at Superiorclick HERE to learn more.

Town of Superior - 2018 Budget
Over the past several months, the Board and staff have been developing, reviewing and finalizing the proposed 2018 budget . The Board has conducted preliminary reviews of the budget during meetings in September. Final review and approval of the Town budget is scheduled for Monday November 13, 2017 . The 2018 budget of over $40 million continues to build on the following themes:

  • Investment/reinvestment in current assets (roads, parks, utility plants and systems) - $5.5 million.
  • New/enhanced trails - $2.6 million (with $800,000 coming from our partners at Urban Drainage and Flood Control District and $700,000 from the Federal Government).
  • 15th consecutive year that at least one Town controlled property tax rate has been reduced.
  • A reduction/elimination of planned water rate increases. Recent budgets anticipated a 5% annual water rate increase for the foreseeable future. With smart, targeted growth, such as Downtown Superior, NO water rate increases are included in the 2018 – 2022 financial plan.
  • Aggressive reduction of outstanding debt/long term obligations - $5 million in 2018 principal payments. In 2006 Superior's total debt/long term obligation level was over $71 million. This number will be reduced to a little over $28 million by the end of 2018.

October 8-14 is National Fire Prevention Week. This year the national theme is Every Second Counts, Know 2 Ways Out

Americans have changed the products we use in our daily lives to those with fewer natural materials to more man made materials containing more chemicals. These man made products burn hotter, faster and produce more toxic smoke than natural woods, wools and cottons, giving you less time to escape a fire in your home.  It is important that when your smoke detector goes off you know how to get out quickly and how to get out if your path is blocked.

Plan a fun family activity and make a map of your home. Draw two escape paths out of every room in the house and mark the location of smoke detectors on the map. Once your map is drawn, practice your escape by test activating your smoke detectors and getting out of the house. Keep practicing until you have tried every smoke detector and path in the house. Have races with the kids and practice crawling on your knees to your family’s designated meeting location outside the house. For specific instruction on how to make a home escape plan visit Fire Escape Planning. Rocky Mountain Fire firefighters will be teaching fire prevention at Superior Elementary and Eldorado K-8 during October, ask your child to teach you what they learned at school.

To follow along during Fire Prevention Week follow us at @RockyMtnFire on Facebook. Join us at our Open House at Station One, 7700 Baseline Road in Boulder on October 15th from 1:00 - 3:00 pm.
