Recently, news broke about a massive breach of consumer data at the credit bureau Equifax, affecting as many as 143 million Americans. Though the scope of this breach is beyond that of any of the other many serious breaches at major retailers across the country, it's hardly an isolated incident.
When these breaches happen at retailers like Target, Home Depot, Wendy's, Sonic Drive-Ins, and hundreds of smaller businesses, not only is consumers' account information at risk, but credit unions end up spending millions of dollars to help members cope with fallout from the breaches.
