FEATURED EVENT: Career and College Pathways Summit
Nearly 80 people were in attendance at our Career and College Pathways Summit on Tuesday, Sept. 26, at the Walters Cultural Arts Center. Guests were updated about investments that have been made as a result of Measure 98 funding (CTE expansion, attendance and graduation support), planned expansions of our high school career pathway programs if the bond passes, and about the number of dual credit courses currently being offered to our students. They also heard from a panel of speakers that included business and higher education partners, alumni and current career-technical education teachers, about the future and importance of career-related learning opportunities in HSD for students and how others in the community can get involved.

Hillsboro Bond Would Renovate and Repair Aging Schools
UPCOMING
EVENTS
OCTOBER
One of the four main categories of need the Hillsboro Schools Bond would address is Renovation and Repair of Aging Schools. Just as it is important to do preventive maintenance on your house, it is important for HSD to maintain the investments taxpayers have already made in our buildings and systems. This bond would allow us to replace roofing, water pipes, boilers, and chillers; upgrade HVAC systems; add heat and air conditioning where needed; remodel Hilhi and Reedville; construct a satellite transportation/maintenance facility; construct lighted turf fields at three of our high schools; and more!

Anti-Bullying Parent Nights
To kick off National Bullying Prevention Month, nationally-renowned anti-bullying speaker and comedian Keith Deltano of Don't Bully Online will be visiting HSD this week to conduct a series of assemblies and parent nights at which he will provide practical advice and to raise awareness about bullying prevention. Parent nights will be held from 6 p.m. to 7 p.m. on Tuesday, Oct. 3, in the Liberty High School Auditorium, 7445 NE Wagon Dr., Hillsboro; and on Wednesday, Oct. 4, in the Century High School Auditorium, 2000 SE Century Blvd., Hillsboro.

International Walk to School Day is Oct. 4
Wednesday, Oct. 4, is the 21st annual International Walk to School Day, an event that encourages physical activity and raises awareness about the importance of having safe routes for getting to and from schools. If you normally drive your student to school or have them ride the bus, consider walking with them instead or driving to a location that's within walking distance and then walking with them the rest of the way!
