Dear Epiphany, During this upcoming Thanksgiving week, I offer you the words of 17th century Anglican poet, George Herbert:
Thou that hast given so much to me, give one thing more - a grateful heart.
May you gather with family and friends in groups large and small to remember the abundance of blessings God has given. For gratitude has the power to soften the rough places of challenge and open doors in our hearts to receiving God's never-ending graces. May gratitude fill your hearts and overflow your tables.
I will be sharing my meal on Thursday with my family in Albany and giving thanks for the blessing this community is to me.
Yours in Christ, Rev'd Jen New member at Epiphany: We rejoice to announce the birth of Harley Davin, daughter of parishioners Jaime & Tim Davin and little sister of Lilly. She was born Wednesday, November 15 at 6:39 a.m. weighing 8 lbs. If you would like to send them your greetings, their home address is 56 oxford Lane, Swansea, MA 02777. Please call or send congratulations to: 401-699-5844; [email protected]. Jaime & Tim are very excited for you to meet their precious Harley very soon at church. Thanks be to God! Epiphany Advocates present "Welcoming the Stranger: A Conversation with a Dreamer." |
|
Adult Forum this Sunday: Epiphany Advocates present "Welcoming the Stranger: A Conversation with a Dreamer"
this Sunday, November 19, 9:15-10:15 a.m. Do not neglect to show hospitality to strangers, for thereby some have entertained angels unawares. (Heb. 13:2) How do we welcome the stranger in Christ's name? We have all heard the recent discussions about "Dreamers", DACA, and the challenges they face as children brought to this country by their parents. General media coverage seldom can provide the full picture of the situation. As much as this is a public issue, it is also about individual people in our communities. Christian faith calls us to look for the face of Christ in one another, so please come hear the story of one East Providence "Dreamer," 19-year old Rodrigo Pimental who was brought here as an infant. Deborah Gonzalez, an immigration attorney, will also join us to discuss the challenges these young people face in living their lives and educate us about the legal process of immigration. |

Outreach Opportunities |
|
- Christmas Gift Outreach Coming! - Support the children of East Providence with Christmas gifts again this year through East Bay Community Action. Look for tags, requesting specific gifts for particular children, to be put up on the Parish Hall bulletin board beginning this Sunday, 11/19. Gifts will be due by December 10.
- Bread of Life Food Pantry! Each year, Epiphany makes a financial contribution to support the work of the Food Pantry as well as our weekly donations of canned goods and volunteer time. If you'd like to make a designated contribution this week or next, please put a check, made out to Epiphany, in the plate or send it to the office with "Bread of Life" in the memo line or donate online including the same memo designation.

December Adult Forum Study |
|
December Adult Forum Study (Dec. 3 & 10, maybe 17): Learning to Walk in the Dark Barbara Brown Taylor, Episcopal priest, author and well-known preacher has written a book exploring the spiritual richness and opportunity of darkness in all its forms. Our Christian conviction is that Jesus was born in the darkness of a cave at night and was risen to new life from the darkness of a tomb. Darkness is not bad. In this season of ever-decreasing light outside, come explore with us the often overlooked invitations and blessings of darkness, both physical and spiritual, in our lives and in the Bible. In order to prepare, please obtain and read Barbara Brown Taylor's book, Learning to Walk in the Dark. |

Thank you to our Lawn Mowing Team! |
|
If you see George Nunes, Phil Campbell, Evan McCarthy, Bernie Klim, Kevin Kelley, Jaime and Tim Davin or Kristen Dee, please give them your thanks for mowing our lawn and trimming our grounds weekly this season. They serve generously with their time and physical efforts to keep our grounds welcoming to all. Their volunteer efforts provide a significant financial savings to our budget for which we are grateful. Could you lend a hand next season? |

Meet your Vestry Members |
|
The Vestry of an Episcopal Church is our name for the elected group of leaders of the parish. They are concerned with the spiritual and financial health of the congregation and charged with being good stewards of our resources (program, property and budget). They meet once a month, for two retreats a year and offer guidance and work in between. In this space we hope to better introduce you to these people. Ask them questions and present to them your feedback, prayers and ideas. Vestry Member - Rob Hart, Senior Warden Rob Hart, a life-long Episcopalian born in Pittsburgh, PA, became Senior Warden in 2017 after a year serving on the Vestry as Clerk. He and his wife Katie joined Epiphany in 2012; they have two daughters, Winona (5) and Magnolia (2). Rob is a Veteran who served around the world as a Naval Officer (Surface Warfare) for eleven years prior to settling down in Barrington. Currently, Rob works as a Program Manager at the Consortium for Energy Efficiency, and commutes to Boston several days a week from the South Attleboro MBTA Station. Rob also serves on Barrington's Energy Committee, and is passionate about energy efficiency and renewable energy. He would love to see Epiphany go solar one day! Thank you, Rob, and God bless you for your gift of time and talent to us! |
