It's Time to Winterize Your Home!
Here, in the Land of Extremes, where the weather can change lightning fast, be prepared when Jack Frost arrives by winterizing your home.
SAFETY
Clean and certify operation of furnace and humidifier by a licensed HVAC contractor ($180)
Certify operation of gas fire place ($150)
Clean wood burning fireplace and chimney ($259)
Install carbon monoxide detector within within 15' of EVERY bedroom
Change batteries in all smoke detectors and carbon monoxide detectors
HOME
Clean rain gutters
Disconnect hose from hose bibs
Shut-off and blow out sprinkler system
Close basement crawl space vents
Turn off air conditioner at breaker to prevent accidentally turning the unit on at low temperatures
Check door and window caulking and weather stripping
Fertilize the lawn and trim trees/shrubs when dormant, to promote healthy growth in spring
VEHICLE
Check tire tread and replace tires if needed
Place an ice scraper and emergency survival kit in the car.
