Dear Students, Parents, Teachers & Friends of Education,

Next Generation Learning

Sims Academy of Innovation and Technology (SAIT), the career academy for Barrow County School System, has been named a Ford Next Generation Learning (NGL) community. SAIT is now part of a national network supported by Ford Motor Company Fund, the philanthropic arm of Ford Motor Company. Ford NGL is nationally recognized for its unique approach to learning and is transforming public high schools into career-themed academies to better prepare students for college and professional success in today's competitive global economy.

Associates at SAIT will learn academics through the lens of a potential career, such as engineering, mechatronics, culinary arts or marketing. They will have the opportunity to participate in job shadows, internships and other career exploration activities. Students will work closely with professionals in their field of interest, adding relevance to their studies and connecting classroom knowledge to success in the workplace. Barrow County is being named as one of only nine school systems within Georgia, and less than 50 nationwide.

"Ford NGL research has proven that community ownership and accountability is just as important to educating our children as good study habits and hard work," said Cheryl Carrier, executive director, Ford Next Generation Learning. "The Ford NGL partnership gives students and teachers a competitive edge that not only improves their chances for future success, but will benefit the community as a whole for years to come."
Stop the Bleed

What do The Department of Public Health, Athens Regional Trauma team and University of Georgia College of Public Health have in common with County Line Elementary? Wanting to save lives! Fifty-three County Line staff members stepped up to become certified in techniques for easy-to-use hemorrhage control which according to the National Trauma Institute,  is responsible for almost 35% of pre-hospital deaths.  CLES is the 1st school in Region 10 to be Stop the Bleed certified.

Holiday Ornament Winner

The Governor's Mansion requested a specially designed ornament from each county in Georgia depicting their Courthouse for the 2017 Holiday Trees. Winder-Barrow High student Jared Martindale was recognized this week by the Barrow County Commission for his winning 3D holiday ornament, which will be sent to the Governor's Mansion to represent Barrow County. WBHS Engineering teacher Kimberly Garren utilized this project as a class assignment.
