Giving Thanks

As we head towards Thanksgiving, my favorite American holiday, I find I have just as much to be thankful for this year as last.

I am thankful to you for sharing and trusting us with your children for their education, and for your understanding of, and faith in, the way we do things inside and outside the classrooms at RHP and Renaissance. And I am thankful for the pleasure I get from interacting with your children each day.

I am thankful for the colleagues I get to work with on this campus. We are continually looking to become better and better at what we do. A spirit of enthusiastic challenge and improvement informs everything we do: "The Growth Mindset" that we talk about with our children. Our faculty and board are forward-looking in continually upgrading and enhancing the curriculum and improving and expanding our facilities. " Our Vision-The Next Ten Years" is driving us purposefully forward on many fronts, the most recent success being the opening of our six new classrooms earlier this week. And the faculty have already implemented several new initiatives to enhance our rigor as part of the Vision.

I am thankful to work with people I very much enjoy being around.

Each day brings me here to a vibrant community, the extended Husky family. And I end each day all the better for the experience.

Thank you, Go Huskies . . . and Happy Thanksgiving!

Join the RHP & Ren Sailing Team!

Our sailing team has been performing spectacularly this year, but additional members are welcome to join. Unlike seasonal sports, the sailing team has numerous competitive opportunities throughout the entire year. We partner with King Harbor Yacht Club's Youth Sailing Program and encourage students to both learn and develop their sailing abilities among other high school students.

If you or your child are interested in joining the team, contact one of the lead student skippers, Cade Morris or Drea Keswater.

Student Artwork Notecards For Sale

The Arts Department is selling packs of student notecards just in time for the holidays. The packs of twenty cards and envelopes feature the work of ten students and are available for $20 a pack. Packs will be available for a limited time shortly after the Thanksgiving holiday.

Pre-order your notecards now by emailing [email protected] or sending the attached order form in to school with a check payable to Rolling Hills Prep School.

Click the button below to access the order form.

Government
and Economics
Summer Class

In order to increase flexibility during senior year scheduling, Rolling Hills Prep and Renaissance are offering Government and Economics, a requirement for seniors, over Summer. A student taking the course would then have the ability to take an additional elective class during senior year.

Interested students are required to fill out a brief form that must be returned by Monday, November 20. Both the form and more information can be found by clicking the button below.

Thank You For Supporting Our Schools With a Gift to
The Husky Fund

Thank you to all families who have already made gifts to The Husky Fund. Our target this year is 100% parent participation, in 100 days, to reach our goal of $750,000.

Determining the size of your family's gift is a personal decision; amounts typically vary from $25.00 to more than $25,000.00. In a perfect world, if every family contributed $2,600.00 for each student they have enrolled, we would make our goal. In reality, we know that financial circumstances differ widely and some families will give more while others give less. For additional guidance on this matter, we invite you to review the suggested giving levels detailed on our website and on the remittance envelope you received in your Husky Fund packet.

Please keep in mind that while tuition is not tax-deductible, gifts to The Husky Fund are. When it comes to prioritizing your year-end donations, we urge you to make your children and their education the greatest recipients of your philanthropic giving. Your support of our schools' missions is truly appreciated.

Max Smith

"'This was the first mountain I failed climbing. But after a couple of days, I realized that what I did was ok. I knew that I could always just try again. I learned that failing isn't
always failing . I could say that I didn't get to the peak. I could also say that I climbed up to 10,000 feet in the snow. Just because I failed to get to the top doesn't mean I failed the entire climb."

On Monday, we hosted an opening night for the six new English and arts classrooms. The evening began with an update on Our Vision: The Next Ten Years, followed by tours and a performance by our student garage band.

Dr. Taurozzi's chemistry class investigated the reactivity of different elements based on the number of valence electrons present.

Mrs. Hancock and Ms. Begley's middle school students presented their Future Cities projects and continued to prepare for their upcoming competition.

Ms. Karp's calculus class and Mr. Brammah's physics class joined forces for a combined experiment during X Block.

Mrs. Hagee's AP Psychology class discussed brain adaptation using distortion glasses.
