A Personal Note from Sylvia

I did the math, and there is a 99.7% chance that today is your UN-birthday.  And, if it isn't, I 100% guarantee that tomorrow will be!  Happy unbirthday to you!

In honor of your un-birthday, I've just released two new sets of my harp arrangements of some "un" pieces:  UN-forgettable and UN-chained Melody.  As usual, these are now available as PDF downloads, and the printed sheets will be ready in a few weeks.

See below for information on these new arrangements.  I hope you enjoy playing them!

unforgettableUnforgettable
Unforgettable L PDF
Unforgettable has been recorded by many artist, but Nat King Cole's 1951 version is the best-known. This song got a new lease on life with Sia's version in Disney's 2016 Finding Dory film.

I have created three intermediate arrangements, which are ALL included in this sheet music:

Arrangement #1 for lever harps tuned to the key of C. In the key of A (3 sharps). An A-sharp and several C and F-naturals are set before the piece begins, and there are five D and G lever changes in the music. The range needed is 24 strings from D (2 octaves below middle C) up to F.

Arrangement #2 for lever harps tuned to 2 or 3 flats. In the key of G (1 sharp). One G#, one F-natural, and several E-flat and B-flats are set before the piece begins, and there are five C and F lever changes in the music. The range needed is 24 strings from C (2 octaves below middle C) up to E.

Arrangement #3 for pedal harps. In the key of G (1 sharp), with numerous pedal changes in the music.

Fingerings, lyrics, and chord symbols are included throughout. Each arrangement is 2-pages long, for a total of 6 pages of music.

The PDF download is available now.  The printed sheet will be ready in a few weeks.
unchained Unchained Melody
Unchained L PDF
Unchained Melody was written by Alex North and Hy Zaret as a theme for the 1955 prison film Unchained. The best-known version of the song was the 1965 version by the Righteous Brothers, which was featured in the 1990 film Ghost.

I have created solo and duet arrangements of this haunting love song in two different keys. The duet arrangements are for harp and melody instrument, such as flute or violin. The melody part could also be played by a second harp.

#1. The solo and duet arrangements in the key of A (3 sharps) can be played by lever harps tuned to the key of C or flat keys, and pedal harps. You will need sharping levers on C, F, and G strings. The harp range needed is 25 strings from G (10 strings below middle C) up to C.

#2. The solo and duet arrangements in the key of G (1 sharp) can only be played by lever harps tuned to 1, 2 or 3 flats, and pedal harps. You will need sharping levers on F and B strings. The harp range needed is 25 strings from F (11 strings below middle C) up to B.

Fingerings, lyrics and chord symbols are included. There are 24 pages of music: 12 pages in the key of A, and 12 pages in the key of G. The solo arrangements are 4 pages long, the duet scores are 6 pages, and the melody parts are 2 pages.

The PDF download is available now.  The printed sheet will be ready in a few weeks.
I
Kart-a-Bag
recently got word from the manufacturer of our awesome Kart-A-Bag folk harp carts that they will be raising the cost of their carts by about $20 at the end of October.  So, if you want a cart . . . NOW is the time to buy!  On October 31st I'll be raising the price on my site from $255.95 to $274.95.

Here's what some of our customers have said about these carts over the years.

The day I bought my Dusty Strings 36FHS, it was quite a big investment for me. I hesitated to add the Kart-a-Bag to my bill, but decided to just consider it part of my total "harp package". I'm so glad I did! I can carry my harp a short way, but for any distance farther than 150 feet I just get out my Harp Kart. It sets up in three easy steps. Then I secure my harp snugly with the bungee cord straps and I'm ready to take it anywhere. The large wheels smoothly roll over almost anything. When I'm done, I quickly collapse the Kart into a compact shape that is easily stored out of sight. It's double-duty--my HarpKart even went to work with me one day to help store boxes of files! - M Jan Gochenaur (August 2008)

I am a professional harper, and have been for the last 14 years. I have carried my harp around for the last 25 years, always saying I was strong and could manage, never letting anyone else carry it in case they whacked it off something (and always believing that if you play it, you should carry it!). I admit I have had trouble with my right arm (I always carried it on my right shoulder), straining muscles and a bad back sometimes. But would never give in to getting help. I have a hard case, but I use it for planes mostly as it is a beast of a thing! So now after 25 years, I have given in! Okay, so I am now 7 months pregnant, and trying to keep gigging and teaching, and doing everything I can to keep busy, but I finally bought a trolley. And I LOVE IT!!! It's a dream to put up and take down, it's sturdy and I am assured the harp is safe, it travels over rough ground, gravel, tarmac, up and down pavements easily due to the smaller wheels at the back. It does add a bit of weight to the harp if you have to go up lots of stairs with it still attached. So I ask for help then, but it is easy to carry from the top end or the bottom end. And it's so fast to take off and put on, that I'm not finding that a problem at all. I actually wish I had bought one of these many years ago! Then I might not have such a muscly right arm!!! I recommend this trolley highly." - Corrina Hewat (January 2009)

This cart is the best! It is easy to set up and take down. The extra wheels allow the harp to be up at an angle, making it much easier to get my harp through doors quickly by myself. - Andra Riffle (October 2011)

I have used this cart for 20 years, in all situations as well as in the hospital. It has stood up very well, and I will order another one right this minute. One tip: I use "baggie ties" to attach a stainless steel baker's cooling rack to the platform, so harp legs do not slip through and get scratched. Also, when I unload in the hospital parking structure, I notice that all the med vendors stack their boxes on this very same cart, and we roll in together! Thanks, Sylvia! - Margaret Warczak (August 2013)

You can read all about the Kart-A-Bag on our web site.  And remember to order before October 31st to get the current price before it goes up!
