How to Create a Happy, Safe Halloween for You and Your Pets

Halloween is around the corner promising fun, tricks, treats and costumes. Have your pet in on the fun, but ensure she is safe at all times.

There's really no trick to your pet's safety. The ASPCA's article, "Halloween Safety Tips," offers common sense advice:

Let the Dogs Out for Safe, Outdoor Fun in Cooler Weather

When the temperature finally cools down in Arizona, all paws are up for fun in the fall weather. During the hot summer months it can be difficult to find things to do for dogs. The mid-fall weather is the perfect time to get outside so both of you can explore, exercise and have a ball -- no pun intended!

Is your cat a sad "sack?" If your cat has a "sack" under her belly, you might wonder what it is and why it's there, especially if your cat is not overweight.

Employee of the month: Kyle Hustead, Doggie Day Care Attendant

Making sure the dogs in day care are having fun and enjoying themselves is all in a day's work for Kyle Hustead, day care attendant at Second Home Pet Resort. "At the same time I make sure they are playing safely," he said. "I watch over them making sure everything goes smoothly."

Kyle, who grew up with all kinds of animals and currently has a dog and a parrot, loves working with animals. "I love them because they don't ever judge you, and on a bad day they are always there for you no matter what," he said. "They are in the moment."

After 8 months at Second Home, Kyle says that working with dogs gives him a purpose. "I get to take care of a life," he said, adding that his favorite part of the job is seeing rescues come out of their shell and helping them recover.

The employees at Second Home are not there just for a paycheck, according to Kyle. "They are there because they want to work a job that is meaningful, and they are there to help the dogs," he said. "Second Home Pet Resort puts care into their animals. We are very genuine."
