Guide the Future of Birmingham's Parks & Recreation
 Guide the future of Birmingham's parks and recreation by sharing your input regarding a new master plan! The Parks and Recreation Board is currently preparing an updated plan to be adopted in 2018. Residents are encouraged to share their feedback at an Open House and presentation by the City's consultants, McKenna Associates, on Tuesday, October 3rd. The Open House will take place from 5:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m., with the Parks and Recreation Board meeting / presentation beginning at 6:30 p.m. Both events will take place at the Department of Public Services Building located at 851 South Eton Street. Meet Your Firefighters at Oct. 14 Open House
Learn about fire safety and meet your firefighters at their annual Open House Event on Saturday, October 14, 2017 from 1 pm to 4 pm at the Adams Fire Station (572 South Adams). Take advantage of the opportunity to operate a fire hose and view portable fire extinguisher demonstrations. In addition, attendees will enjoy an EMS and vehicle extrication display, along with HAZMAT apparatus and equipment. Curbside Leaf Collection Begins Week of 10/16
For streets with curbs only, please note the city is divided into two zones. Determine when leaves will be picked up within your zone using the curbside leaf collection map shown below
. Simply rake your leaves into the street for pickup the weekend prior to your street's designated week. Residents living on uncurbed streets may place leaves in approved containers curbside by 7 A.M. on your trash day now through the week of December 11th. For more information, visit

Cape Seal Treatment Update
Last month a number of local unimproved streets received chip seal maintenance, including several that were pulverized in order to remove high street centers. The final application of a slurry surface coat is expected to begin on Monday, October 2, and should take several days to complete. Residents on affected streets will see instructional signage and door hangers immediately prior to the start of the work.

Celebration to Close out 15th Season at Birmingham Farmers Market
Trick-or-Treating ~ Free Craft ~ Live Entertainment
Join us as we conclude another wonderful season at the Birmingham Farmers Market's End of Season Celebration on Sunday, October 29 from 9 a.m. - 2 p.m.
Stop by to enjoy the delicious smells and samples at the market, and visit the Kids Zone for a free pumpkin craft. Pumpkin carving demonstrations and live music are also on the agenda! Register Now for Boomer Summit Event
Saturday, October 14, 9 a.m. - 2 p.m.
Join thought leaders from around the nation for an exciting and collaborative event for Boomers and beyond at the Boomer Summit on Saturday, October 14 at the Seaholm High School Auditorium. Registration and a Vendor Showcase begin at 8 a.m. and the program is from 9 a.m. - noon. The morning will kick off with Chuck Gaidica along with Dave Bing, Lomas Brown and national expert on Boomers, Kerry Hannon and others. Enjoy a Vendor Showcase, music, videos, and a raffle for two Delta round trip airline tickets compliments of Departure Travel. October News from the Birmingham Museum
 On Saturday, October 7 from 1-4 pm we will be hosting "Landscapes with Victor". Participants will be able to pick up landscape drawing hints and tricks from Birmingham's very own Image Maker, Victor Pytko. This event is free but spaces are limited so registration is required. Call the museum at 248-530- 1928 to reserve your spot today! The museum will have a limited number of art supplies on hand so participants are encouraged to bring their own.
Our next storytime is at 6:30 p.m. on October 12 and our theme is "Nocturnal Animals". Please note that children must be accompanied by an adult while at museum programs.
The museum is open Wednesday through Saturday, 1 PM to 4 PM and located at 556 W. Maple Rd. Parking is available in the Chester St. structure on the south side of Maple. Admission is $7.00 for adults, $5.00 for students and seniors, children 5 and under are free. Please visit us on the web at

Books & Bites 2017
Sneak out for some roaring fun to celebrate the 90th anniversary of the Baldwin Public Library. Baldwin is throwing a speakeasy-themed Books & Bites fundraiser on Friday, November 10 from 6:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. All proceeds from the event will help fund an expansion and renovation of the Youth Room.
