Me'arbah Kanfot Ha'aretz: From the Four Corners of the Earth.
Join Cantor Michael McCloskey and Dr. Ray Feller for evenings of film, conversation and refreshment. This year we will explore the diversity of our people with films from France, Brazil, Italy and other distinctive communities. We will also examine the ways in which our people have influenced the culture in which they are immersed and are influenced by this culture. As always, movie snacks (popcorn, candy, pretzels) and libations (soda and beer) will be provided.
This evening's film is
"Monsieur Ibrahim and the Flowers of the Quran."
Directed
by: Francois Dupeyron based on a novel by Eric-Emmanuel Schmitt
Set in the 1960s in Paris' Jewish quarter, Monsieur Ibrahim and the Flowers of the Koran is about a troubled Jewish boy, Moses, or Momo, who strikes up an unlikely friendship with a solitary Muslim shopkeeper named Monsieur Ibrahim. When Momo's father, a passive-aggressive lawyer who neglects his son's well being, disappears, Ibrahim adopts the orphaned boy, gives him paternal love and teaches him the knowledge of the Qur'an, in return receiving love and respect.
