Faculty Shares Go Math! Approach at Parent Night
This week at Yeshivat Noam's second annual Go Math! Night, parents learned about the overall philosophy and goals for mathematics in Grades 1-5. Mrs. Caryn Nat, Curriculum Coordinator for General Studies and Mrs. Jenny Pavel, Director of Support Services for Elementary School shared the many features and benefits of the Go Math! approach. The parents then rotated through four stations to gain a better understanding of how Go Math! is implemented into the classrooms. The teacher-led stations included: Online Resources, Hands on Learning Materials, Problem Solving Strategies, and Differentiation.

Enrichment Lending Library Opens
Yeshivat Noam has a large population of students who read many books weekly. Reading is one of their greatest joys and ways to spend their free time. Continually finding books on a high level that are age and topic appropriate for these deep thinkers can be a challenge. Margi Saks, who runs an enrichment book club for 4th and 5th Graders, saw this as a wonderful opportunity to open her own enrichment lending library. In the Spring, she entered the Scholastic James Patterson contest and won a $500 grant towards building her dream library. This Fall, Mrs. Saks ordered $500 worth of high quality literature, many of them Newbery Award winners and books representing a variety of genres.

Bat Mitzvah Project Benefitting Renewal
Dear Yeshivat Noam, For my Bat Mitzvah project I am raising money for Renewal, a Jewish organization that helps people with kidney problems find kidney donors. I chose this particular organization because my father found a kidney donor in only three days after meeting with them. Renewal found an amazing man whose kidney was a great match for my dad. We were so grateful for this miracle. The surgery was a success, but unfortunately my dad passed away shortly after due to complications following the surgery. The money raised will be used to transport the donors if they live far away. It's also used to help promote awareness for kidney donation. Kidney donation saves lives and it is a huge mitzvah!
Please click here to donate to this worthy cause that has such a special place in my heart. This mitzvah is in honor and memory of my dad, Jordan Levy, z''l. Thank you!
Sincerely, Mattea Levy

Bat Mitzvah Project Collecting Children's Books for Houston
Hi, my name is Sara Mirwis. I was born in Houston, Texas. I moved with my family to Teaneck 5 years ago (when my older siblings were headed to Yeshiva University). My family lived in Houston for 17 years. We lived in the Young Israel neighborhood. My dad still works there and commutes every week. I am SO SO SAD because of the hurricane. So many people and friends I know have been flooded and have lost all of their things : (
I decided that for my Bat Mitzvah I will collect as many children's books as possible and send them with my dad each week to the different neighborhoods and schools. That way all of the children of Houston can have books to read (and hopefully also keep them a little distracted from the sadness around them).
If you can donate a new or like new children's book you can help me with this project.
My mom said she can pick up from anyone's home if they need (her cell: 713-545-3684). OR, you can drop it on our front porch as well (1270 Fayette Street).
Thank you for reading this and thank you if you are able to help the children in Houston.
