It's time to get back to school!

During this transition, there is a lot of important information we need everyone on board with. There are many changes, including moving onto our temporary Parish Campus.
PLEASE SEE MRS. RYAN'S LETTER FIRST
BEFORE REVIEWING ALL INFORMATION BELOW CAREFULLY

This newsletter today gives information about the upcoming first week back to school, and other back to school related info. Parents will ALSO be receiving updates from Mrs. Ryan via email in addition to this newsletter when needed.
LETTER FROM MRS. RYAN
Dear Parents,

This week has been full of new plans and frequent changes as we work through the best ways to accommodate our students and get them back to school and academics on our interim parish campus.  The teachers and I spent yesterday at the parish working out the many details involved in keeping your children safe and making our new classroom spaces conducive to learning.  The security fencing is up and the temporary modular building that will house two classrooms is currently set to arrive on

th

The faculty and staff worked extensively today on gathering the teaching and student materials that will be used at our parish campus.  All of these materials are undergoing restoration for smoke damage before they are brought down to the parish.

Other pertinent information about the transition:
  • The company handling the smoke and water restoration is Belfor.  They are the same professionals that completed the smoke mitigation for Sutter and Kaiser Hospitals.
  • There has been secondary damage to our main building caused by a water flow that happened days after the fire.   All the buildings will be treated to mitigate the smoke damage.  The main building will also be treated for water damage and there will be new flooring throughout.
  • The parish infrastructure was unable to accommodate the modular that was to house the preschool.  An alternate space has been provided by our Lutheran friends at St. Luke's which is only 0.4 mile from our parish campus.  Our preschool director is working closely with state licensing and we plan to have the space ready for children by November 13th
  • The finance committee is devising a workable plan to re-institute tuition payments and offer assistance to all who need it.

  • We will restore other services such as YMCA after-school care and tutorial as soon as possible

The support and cooperation that is taking place among our teachers, staff, parents, Parent Association, Advisory Council, diocese, and wider community in order to get St. Rose re-opened is phenomenal.   Monetary donations are coming in from everywhere in order to ensure that no child has to leave St. Rose due to finances.   I truly hope you will stay with us as we forge this new chapter in the illustrious history of St. Rose School.

Sincerely,
Kathy Ryan
School Principal

REALLY IMPORTANT INFORMATION
PLEASE READ CAREFULLY

Most important: Please be patient as we learn to exist on our Parish Campus.

While in this downtown urban setting, security and safety for all is our #1 priority. We have parameters and policy set in place to protect all on campus. During this transition, we ask that parents please partner with us and follow our request to limit your time on campus, limit visits to campus office unless absolutely necessary, and plan and prepare for the modifications to the school schedule. There is no wiggle room for late pick-ups after-school. All students must be picked up on time at 2:50 pm dismissal.

COMMUNICATION with office staff, teachers or Mrs. Ryan should be done via email or phone. Please use the same school phone number to report absences or to leave messages for front office. We will check often and return calls as needed. If you are just leaving a message for your child, please don't expect us to return your call.

ABSENCES & HOMEWORK:
Same procedure as always for reporting absences or requesting homework. Phone information at the top of this newsletter.

PARISH CAMPUS MORNING DROP OFF & AFTER-SCHOOL PICK UP
DROP OFF: NO EARLIER THAN 7:45 am
There will be 1 entrance into parking lot and 1 exit. There will only be 1 entrance into school building. Parents are asked to NOT come into the school building at morning drop off. Faculty and staff will be stationed to accept and direct students.

DROP OFF / PICK UP:
We will establish a pick up line for cars to drive up to either drop off or pick up, just like the circle at our home school!
There is absolutely NO PARKING in the first 2 rows in front of building during morning drop off or afternoon pick up.
If the drop off / pick up line gets clogged at the entrance, we ask that you please find a parking space to wait or drive around the block and come back. Clogging up the downtown streets may not be a good idea. We need everyone to be patient and do their best to make the process flow as easily, quickly and efficiently as possible.
We ask that 2nd - 8th grade parents remain in your cars and follow the drop off and pick up procedure.
Parents of younger children may if they choose, park and walk their child up to the entrance, where a staff member will escort or direct them to their teachers.

Students will enter the parish hall thru the WEST entrance (double glass doors). All other entrances will be closed.    Teachers will walk their classes out at dismissal.

PARENTS, please understand, there is simply no space inside the parish hall for parents to walk children in at this time nor time to speak with teachers before, during or after class. This temporary space allows for teachers to set up and create their learning environments for students only. If you need to speak with a teacher, please do so through email communication.

There will be a  'front school office' set up in the foyer inside the WEST entrance, (double glass doors) where Ms. KC and/or Ms. Carol will be and will monitor those who enter the building, regular daily office functions, first aid station, etc. If you MUST take your child out of school for appointments, please plan ahead and notify us before coming down.

Our campus will be a very controlled environment. Only essential personnel will be allowed on campus.

We thank everyone for your patience, understanding, love and care.

School Uniform
Students are expected to be in school uniform the first day of school.
Students who were impacted by the fire will be contacted and provided items they need until new uniforms are provided. Many of you have already reached out to these families and provided gently used items for them to get started. THANK YOU!

Because of the generosity of our 5/6th basketball teams whose season was cancelled, all students who lost school uniforms in the fire will be given a credit towards the purchase of new uniform items. Those families will be contacted within the next week to begin that process.

Uniform orders placed in September:  Sonoma Design, our uniform provider, is located in the Coffee Park area, and though their business was not lost, they were affected by evacuation and power loss for 2 weeks. We plan on having those uniform orders delivered within the next 2 weeks.

WE WILL BE EXPEDITING ALL UNIFORM ORDERS PLACED
BY NOV. 8TH ONLY.
UNIFORM INFORMATION
WEDNESDAY ENVELOPES will begin going home on the first day back
School Directories have arrived and will be sent home with the oldest child in your family.
1 directory per family will be sent home soon.
We realize some of the information may now be different for some of our families.
Please note, information in the school directory is for school families only and never to be shared with anyone else or for any business purposes.
Outpouring of Love and assistance!
More than 40 of our Preschool-8th students lost their homes and all their belongings.
The devastation from these fires has effected all of us in so many ways.
So many in our school community are finding ways to help each other, offering up ideas for student fundraisers, uniform & school supply replacement, not to mention those who have offered to lead the charge to recover, rebuild and re-open our campus.
Some of those ideas are coming to life now,and some will come later.
Check the newsletter each Wednesday for more information on how you can contribute or help.

Do YOU know someone or a business who has asked how they can help?
Please forward to them this Fund-Raising Memo HERE

Communication & School Safety

Communication with parents is important. The weekly school newsletter is a great tool for parents to stay informed. And, as you now know, we use text messaging to keep parents updated with important reminders, as well as in the event of an emergency at school.

School Safety:  The safety of everyone on our campus is paramount to us. Parent Volunteers must be compliant with Diocese requirements, and we all understand what 'stranger danger' means! Though you may feel comfortable being on campus, some of us may not know who you are. All visitors must come to the office and check in with us before coming on campus. We appreciate your cooperation.

Please click on the link HERE for important information regarding what to do if there were an emergency at school.
Diocese Requirement for ALL VOLUNTEERS
If you are a returning parent volunteer you are required to re-certify by taking the NEW Safe Environment Course, 'A Safe Haven - It's Up to You' on the Diocese web site.
ALL MUST RE-CERTIFY BEFORE ANY CAMPUS ACTIVITY. MANY parents are still not compliant and will not be able to volunteer for campus activities until completed.

ALL VOLUNTEERS: click HERE for all the information you need to complete the process.
If you need assistance with log in or password - please contact Ms. KC in the school office.
RETURNING VOLUNTEERS: PLEASE DO NOT CREATE A NEW ACCOUNT

BACK TO SCHOOL!
In case you missed it & OTHER STUFF!
School Policy for Illness (from school handbook)
It's that time of year! Colds, coughs, sniffles, flu, etc.
All those little germs and bugs are busy jumping around the classrooms.
Here are a few basic guidelines for parents whose child(ren) may be coming down with a bug!

Fever
Fever free for 24 hours without Tylenol or Motrin before returning to school
Cough / Cold / Runny Nose
Few younger children can effectively blow their nose and wash hands afterwards. A child with thick or constant nasal discharge should remain home until clear to avoid spreading illness to others.
Vomiting/Diarrhea A child should be free of vomiting/diarrhea for 24 hours before returning to school.
Strep Throat
Notify office. A child is contagious until he/she has been on antibiotics for 24 hours. Child should remain home for 24 hours of treatment and until feeling better.
Lice
Notify office. Child may return to school after lice treatment
Pink Eye (Conjunctivitis)
Notify office. Child may return to school 24 hours after treatment has begun. No discharge from the eyes.
The 24 hour test
A child should stay home for at least 24 hours if the following symptoms are present the morning of school or the previous night:
  • Vomiting and/or diarrhea
  • Fever 100+
  • Itchy or reddened eyes with discharge (see Dr)
  • Unusual rash (see Dr.)
  • A poor night sleep due to illness, cough, etc.
Reminder: Children may not keep medication of any kind with them during the school day.
See 'Medications at School' policy below.
MEDICATIONS AT SCHOOL
Students are prohibited from having medication of any kind with them during the school day or from bringing into the classroom. If your child requires medication to be administered, please stop by the school office to complete the Authorization to Administer Medication Release Form.
ALL medications must be in original packaging, with prescription attached, and/or dosage instructions on the package.  We will not administer Allergy medication at school. Allergy medications should be taken at home prior to coming to school.
