Enrichment Opportunities
Enrichment opportunities are especially important to student growth and development. Whether you participate in sports, clubs, after-school programs, peer mentoring, summer camps, or other extra-curricular activities, you will be more prepared and equipped for higher education, and employment. Through these initiatives students are able to enhance their academic and social skills, generating a resume for the future.

Enrichment programs may focus on music and fine arts, learning, athletics, building a variety of skills, and so on. During the year, the Guidance Department receives information from community-based organizations, non-profit operations, religious organizations and universities offering such programs for young adolescents. To view these opportunities please visit our website at http://nhs.natickps.org/cms/One.aspx?portalId=121475&pageId=586588
REGISTERED NURSES FROM NWH VISIT NHS
On Tuesday, November 14th, Registered Nurses from Newton Wellesley Hospital came to visit NHS to speak to our seniors who are interested in pursuing careers in the nursing profession. The NWH nurses shared their own educational and working experiences and the different aspects of nursing to the students. The NHS students enjoyed the presentation and felt the information was extremely helpful as they navigate their college searches. The format allowed for an interactive question and answering session. In summary, the nursing profession has a host of opportunities, any career choice you are interested in, can also be explored through nursing. For example, there are Nurse Executives, Nurse Attorney's, Nurse Entrepreneurs, Nurse Practitioners (all specialties), Nurse Educators, Nursing Informatics, Nurses who work in Forensics and Nurses who work in Research just to name a few!

We are grateful for the NWH Nurses who reached out to the next generation of nurses!

METROWEST KIDS INITIATIVE
As a part of her MetroWest Kids First initiative, the State Senator Karen E. Spilka first delved into the topic by inviting  Ruth Cross from CASEL  to speak about CASEL’s work at the Warren Conference Center in Ashland, MA. The  event  was a huge success with more than 200 people in attendance.

On the evening of January 9, 2018 , Senator Spilka cordially invites you to hear from the Rennie Center about the  Excellence through Social Emotional Learning (exSEL)  at Warren Conference Center in Ashland, MA.
The Excellence through Social-Emotional Learning (exSEL) Network will bring districts across Massachusetts together to design and implement policies and practices that promote SEL. Districts chosen to participate in the network will have access to expert facilitators and trainers, a peer network focused on SEL, and the latest research on a variety of tools, practices, and interventions that support students’ social-emotional development.

To begin their work, districts will focus on making growth mindset—the belief that intelligence can be developed—a key part of school culture. Next, districts will identify and prioritize a specific set of additional SEL goals to strengthen educator capacity and support their unique student population. The exSEL Network will help district teams meet these goals through strategies aligned with best practices and a common set of skills and competencies.

The project is led by the exSEL Coalition, whose members include the Massachusetts Association of School Committees, Massachusetts Association of School Superintendents, Massachusetts Organization of Educational Collaboratives, and Massachusetts School Administrators Association. The exSEL Coalition’s non-profit partners—the Rennie Center for Education Research & Policy, Transforming Education, and Teachers 21—provide expertise, support, and training for the network.
