Just for your information, Parliament will be holding a Central Committee meeting at 9am today, Monday, October 2nd, in the General Assembly Chamber of the House of Parliament at Wilhelminastraat #1 in Philipsburg. The agenda point is Advice regarding the (re)appointment of an Ombudsman.

Then at 10am the House of Parliament will sit in a plenary public session .The Prime Minister and Minister of General Affairs will be present for the session. The agenda point is State of preparedness hurricane season, Disaster management hurricane Irma, Reconstruction following the devastation by hurricane Irma.

Members of the public are invited to the House of Parliament to attend parliamentary deliberations. The House of Parliament is located across from the Court House in Philipsburg. The parliamentary session will be carried live on St. Maarten Cable TV Channel 120, the audio via Laser 101 FM, Government of Sint Maarten Facebook page and via www.sxmparliament.org.

Parliament dragging its feet..
That the Parliament of Sint Maarten, the highest representative body in the country, finally convened last Monday, September 25th, to be updated by the Minister of General Affairs, the Honorable William Marlin, on the passing of hurricane Irma, after two and a half weeks is unacceptable, writes Wycliffe Smith, leader of the Sint Maarten Christian Party.

Investigations into the mass looting continue to expand as more suspects are being identified and arrested. Many looted items are being found and confiscated.

“Though our companies have sustained millions of dollars in extensive damages, we are progressively working to improve our operations, while providing essential services to our customers,” says Tariq Amjad, MWG’s Managing Director.
"The hotel industry in St. Maarten has been hit hard by Hurricane Irma. It will probably take until the end of 2018 before the sector is fully operational again," says Ricardo Perez, general manager of Oyster Bay Beach Resort in an interview with TODAY.
